Morton Lake is definitely a spot worth seeing but if you are pulling a trailer or go in a motorhome you will most likely drive just above idleing from the time you get on the logging road to the campground. The road was FULL of potholes and we were quite worried we may crack a window or pop a rivet on our Airstream. It is not a big deal if you are in a truck and camper. The campsites are nicely situated either facing the lake or the forest and they all looked well kept and clean. We occupied the group campground which was very roomy and allowed enough space for the many vehicles belonging to our group. During the busy season it pays to have a reservation! I was amazed that even in mid October it was well visited, yet it felt very relaxing and quiet. Morton Lake and the lake right beside it are great for canoeing, kayaking, swimming, and the park has some nice walking/hiking trails. You may want to bring your quad and explore the vast area leading into the park or just hang out and enjoy views and the beauty of nature.
As the road is too narrow to turn around with a trailer, it might be best to park it at the beginning of the logging road and take a drive to inspect the condition of the road before starting the journey! They do grade the road sometimes but there is no say when.

What a great place well organized clean and no bears, safe for children, water is warm enough to swim in, but don't swim in the reeds or lily pads on the side of the lake. Stick to the middle main beach and away from side shores, lurking in leech land is no fun! We where all good no salt needed, except for the occasional big green or black slug that was on the foot path. but hey that's nature. Nights where not to cold just hoodies Water pump with great fresh drinking water, no campfires but we used a pro pain fire pit from canadian tire, worked great, lots of fun with orange cheapo floaty paddle boats. Best place on the island!

My parents and our family 4 children used to go down there when young. Went for drive down there in the afternoon on August 8th. As usual the road off of the logging truck road to go down to Morton Lake was bad as I remember there's so many bad potholes. First time we had our son with us. We just went for the drive and were going to come back on Wednesday for the day but didn't because we returned to Elk falls campground and had a front flat tire.
Trucks or anybody with trucks on the logging road to go up to turn off to Morton lake which will be on the right side they drive like idiots and dont slow down when they see other vehicles. Lucky we didnt get a cracked window also.
The campsites are very nice there.
I know the Morton lake has leeches. Mohun Lake is litterally right beside Morton.
I found a lake West of Elk Falls Campground like 10 mins away Mcivor lake. I suggest dont waste your time and go to this lake, sandy bottom lake. Nice!

Nice spot if you enjoy what I call ' Institutional " camping....reservations at peak times are recommended ...all the usual borne gas powered toys , outhouses , water taps , no campfires right now as BC is burning up ...camping " suburbia "

Only accessible from forestry roads but worth it. Road is fairly well maintained. The sites are very large and quite private, some with direct lake access but all have a view. Really nice, quiet spot.

One of the few lakes I can actually comfortably swim in. Sandy beach, with campground nearby. I've mainly used it for day use though. Large parking lot with short walk to get to beach.

If you don't mind logging roads (and hey, you're camping), this is a perfect little campground. The sites are big and well-groomed, and the pit toilets are the cleanest we've seen anywhere in BC. The park attendants were doing a great job of keeping things clean and tidy.
Morton Lake is a beautiful little lake, and our site gave us a clear view of the lake and the mountains behind it. The loon was a nice touch, and we'd like to thank BC Parks for that.
There is a very nice sandy beach, and the water is warm and clear. The campground is well-spaced, with some sites providing great privacy. We found that everyone camping there was quiet and respectful at bedtime.
We will certainly go back to Morton Lake.

If you are lucky enough to book a site here, look for the lakefront sites. There is a very nice sandy beach. Good fishing and start point for some elaborate canoeing adventure. Often there are some second row sites available on first come first serve basis.

Camping right by lake available in off season. Open sites with dry camping. Good trout fishing in early spring.

winter camping at Morton Lake (thanksgiving weekend). I see there are no reservation but what are the chances there being an open site? is there a contact number other than bc parks?

I don't camp at provincial sites winter or summer.....too many " un-official " places out here so I'm unable to answer..I occasionally use some official sites on a day trip basis when no one else is around

Is the Morton Lake campground 'easily' accessible with a camping trailer? (We have a 25' trailer). I seem to remember the road being very narrow, almost one-way only.

It depends on your comfort level with logging roads (which is what you travel on to get to Morton). They can get muddy and narrow at times with the weather and yes, there are some tight spots and sharp turns. We managed with a 21' just fine but we're used to them.
How is the fishing? How deep is the lake?

search online for morton lake provincial park... It won't let me post any website links in this reply. Here is an excerpt from that site:
"There is a reason the area northwest of Campbell River is called “lake country,” that visitors to Morton Lake Provincial Park are sure to discover. From April to June and September to October, lake fishing for Rainbow, Cutthroat and Dolly Varden trout on Mohun Lake in the park can be excellent. While this park is popular with anglers, there is still plenty to do if fishing isn’t your favourite pastime. During the summer, visitors can fill their days swimming, canoeing, boating or just lounging on the sandy beach at Morton Lake."
