My boyfriend and I had high hopes for this place because of the pictures and positive reviews. The owner e-mailed me the day before to let me know the check-in time, that two of her colleagues were going to welcome us, and that she provided a complimentary upgrade to our room. She sounded very professional and that made us excited to stay on her property. To put it nicely, this place is off the beaten path. It is so hard to find and the address provided to us from the booking website was wrong. We took 3 different routes and took us over half an hour to find this place. We arrived on the property and it was unrecognizable. The grounds look nothing like the pictures and definitely need TLC. To be honest, it looked creepy. We were on-site for 45 minutes waiting for any human being to check us in. No one was there! We made phone calls to the number provided and sent e-mails to the owner. No response. We left frustrated and disappointed by this entire experience. Luckily we found another B&B in another town that was around the same rate, comfortable, and safe. So I guess I can say it worked out for the better.…
The wibes, the energy were so good in that place....it was hard to find and the neighborhood was a bit....scary....but once you are there, it´s just a place cool, peacefull, perfect, one of my best souvenir...The room are cosy , the breakfast really good, and really, the vibes ans the good energy....merci beaucoup
Nice place, away from main road. Very good local breakfast. Excellent if you want to enjoy sunset in the tropical forest when day animals and birds go to sleep and night creatures awake. Full of tree frogs, so expect croak all night long.

We were only in the area one night, and didn't know what to expect. It's off the beaten path, but worth the drive. Terrie, the owner, in wonderful, and the cats and dogs are great company. Very peaceful and comfortable. The night sky was amazing, as was the papaya boat for breakfast. Black Jack the cat joined us for our morning meal. I don't know if we'll pass through the area again, but if we do, we'll definitely stay there.
We stayed for 3 nights in February and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Terrie (the owner) is very welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable of the local area she provided us with lots of information about what to see and do - and there is quite a lot, stuff you don't read about in the regular travel books. We stayed in the Ohana suite which had a very comfortable bed, kitchenette with a fridge, microwave and portable stove top. Everywhere was very clean and the accommodation is in a very peaceful location, right at the end of a no through road. The grounds are gorgeous - a tropical oasis. We were greeted by the owners two gorgeous dogs who are both very friendly and pleased to see you. I actually made really good friends with Em the jack russell, she was just adorable. The breakfast is really healthy and tasty. It is fresh fruit (grown on the property) with yoghurt and granola there is also a home baked offering, we had muffins, scones with jam and lemon iced buns - all home made on that morning. The free in room wifi is very fast and reliable. Would recommend the tide pools for snorkeling and the lava walk with Kalapana multicultural tours - amazing to see in the dark, and the walk back in the dark is not as difficult as you think it might be. All in all we absolutely loved staying at the rainbow retreat, it was very relaxing, friendly and exactly what you need to get away from it all. It had a realy homely feel to it and I would not hesitate in staying here again when we return to the big island - thanks Terrie.…
