Great private manga drawing class adjusted to all levels of experience

Nao is an amazing teacher and speaks perfect English. She is a professional manga artist and has published quite a few mangas such as Moon and Blood. She was very patient with me and answered all of my questions. I do not have any experience drawing manga or even know all that much about it. She gave me examples and worked alongside me. She also walked me through the different tools and materials. I finished the class with a close up profile of a face and a full silhouette. The class is located in Nakano and is very easy to find. She emailed me picture descriptions on how to exactly get to the building. I decided to walk to class from Shinjuku because the weather was perfect. After the class, I have walked away knowing the basics and am continuing to experiment. I hope to return to Tokyo in the near future so I can take another class with Nao. This is definitely not an experience that you can obtain from watching YouTube. Highly recommend this 2 hour class with Manga School Nakano.

My children are both keen anime fans so the chance to learn some manga drawing tips on our visit to Tokyo was too good to miss. The class was a lovely way to spend a morning and we all left the studio (even me) with something to be proud of. Our instructor was so helpful and my 12 year old son said it was the best thing we did on our holiday. Manga School Nakano is absolutely worth the visit and the detailed directions you get when booking made this easy to find from the Tokyo Metro.

Great chance to try your hand at manga

At the end of his workshop, my husband said, "Wow, the amount of work that goes into manga is MIND-BOGGLING!"

Our instructor was Nao-sensei, a manga artist most well know for her work on Wedding Peach, a shoujo manga that was made into anime in the 90s. Nao-sensei went over our alloted time in order to ensure we could get a full range of experience with manga tools: from learning the proportions for faces and bodies for women and men, boys and girls, to inking our sketches, "coloring in" parts with a modern ink brush, to applying screen tones.

My husband and I had some exposure to manga. I went through a time in high school where I obsessively copied from manga such as Sailor Moon and Slam Dunk, while my husband has a good eye and hand for copying what is provided to him.

If you're close to the west side of Tokyo and looking for a good way to spend 3 hours in Nakano (accessible via the JR Chuo line), this is a great workshop to sign up for. Either before or after your workshop, you could also while some time away in Nakano Broadway, a must stop for anyone who likes manga, doujinshi, anime, figures, trading cards and video games (both current and retro).

Patient instructor and great class
I have never taken a drawing class before but was interested in learning about techniques of drawing manga. Nao was so very patient with me, not only with my drawing skills but the fact that I was late (not my finest hour in trying to navigate Tokyo). She explained things clearly and I now have a better idea of basic manga poses and proportions. Thank you, Nao!!
