If you’re travelling solo and want a very personalised adventurous eating experience this tour is fantastic. I love Japanese food but had no idea where to go for the more adventurous and exotic dishes and I don’t speak Japanese. This tour does the hard work for you. If you’re lucky enough to get Mack as your tour guide you’ve hit the jackpot. He’s so diligent and concerned with ensuring you get the best experience that at first he comes of a little stiff. This is just him trying to work out the best tour he can. After a bit of conversation (and a sake) and once he’s sure he understands what you want he’s excellent company and unbelievably knowledgeable. He knows the right places to go and is able to make changes along the way. We chatted so much that we were late for our bookings twice but no problem for Mack who smooths the way. I highly recommend this tour. 5 stars!

This tour was very interesting and allowed me to try some restaurants and dishes I never would have tried on my own. I tried Fugu, various seafoods, and horse meat cooked in several ways. My favorite that I tried was the crab liver cooked in the crab shell. My guide Mack was very knowledgeable and helpful, and he even recommended some other restaurants in japan for me to try. The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the price for a solo traveler was quite expensive. However, if you get the regular group price I would say it’s absolutely worth it. The ordering process and the website is great.

Our Guide Shoji was great. He took us to off the beaten path eateries that we would have never found in Tokyo, and helped us sample foods that we would never had tried.
We also learned in-depth details about Japanese food, especially horsemeat and poisonous blowfish, and sampled them as part of our dinner. We ate samples presented in various uncooked and cooked Japanese cooking styles. Also really enjoyed sampling the Japanese beers and learning about Sake and Sake-drinking customs.
Fantastic, and would highly recommend this!

Just finished the Adventurous Japanese Food Tour, and I’m very pleased. Horse, Whale and Fugu are some of the offerings. I choose horse. However when I mentioned to Asam iYanagisawa, that I was really just interested in having authentic Japanese food, she took me to a street restaurant and adjusted the menu to fit. Great time. We discussed Japanese food while dining. Asami was knowledgeable and a great guide. Highly recommend!
