Peggy's cove was a it cold for the time of year but it was still so much fun to see the light house, the rocks were scary I don't know why anyone would want to go on them with the waves! The Annapolis Valley was just amazing, people were so friendly!

Sam was great! She’s full of great local info and tips so plan this excursion early in your visit! What a great way to see some other beautiful areas of Nova Scotia in one day. If you’re limited on time, you can’t do better than this. Highly recommend!

Alternative Routes is a fantastic option for those who want to see the highlights of Nova Scotia but are a bit short on time!
We were picked up at our hotel right on time by our fantastic guide, Ian. One of the big benefits of small group tours such as this one is everyone gets to know one another and Ian was addressing all six of us by name right from the very start!
Over the course of the day we got to see a lot of sights including Peggy's Cove, Queensland Beach (a highlight for us Aussies!), Mahone Bay, Lunenburg and the Bay of Fundy. There is a surprising amount of ground covered in the day, approx. 300km but it didn't even feel like a lot of driving because we were all having such a fun time onboard the van!
Yes it's a small van and there are other operators with larger buses, but I would take Alternative Routes over them any day. The smaller group makes things much more personal and enjoyable, and we were able to get insights and recommendations from Ian that you wouldn't get in a larger group tour. The van was still very comfortable and I loved the scenery printed on the exterior and all the photos from past guests pinned to the roof inside!
In summary, if there's one tour you do in Nova Scotia, make it this one. Thanks to Ian for making our day so enjoyable and thanks to Sam for setting up such a great company, would love to see the same sorts of experiences made available in other cities!

We took this day trip on August 21, 2023. We were picked up at our hotel by Ian. He was excellent. Very friendly and very informative. The ride was smooth and comfortable. The numerous stops were outstanding and fun. If you are in Halifax this day trip outside of Halifax is a must. We give this our highest recommendation.

This was an absolutely fabulous jam packed day. Ian was an amazing guide. He was friendly, helpful, and extremely knowledgeable. His facts and stories were entertaining and informative. We saw more than we could have hoped for. In addition to Peggy's Cove and Lunenburg, we saw Mahone Bay, the Annapolis Valley, and the Dyke lands in Wolfville at low tide. We finished off with wine tastings at a Nova Scotia Winery. Even though we covered so much we had time to explore on our own in Peggy's Cove and Lunenburg. Definitely a day to remember for a very long time. Thank you Ian.

I was the only person on the tour - the tour guide personalized the tour to my interests! She included lots of background information about the history and culture of various stops.

We really enjoyed this amazing tour. We got to see Peggy's cove, Lunenburg and the Bay of Fundy. Karen, our guide, was very friendly and gave a nice explanation at every stop. She also told us many interesting facts about the landscape driving through the area and told us about famous or important landmarks we passed. Karen put a lot of effort to make sure everyone enjoyed the trip and I would highly recommend taking this tour with her as your guide.

One of the best trips around Nova Scotia (and in general) that you can take, visiting many points of interest and having time to enjoy each location. Keep in mind that there are many locations, so I think it is especially recommended for people eager to see as much as possible efficiently, something that I really enjoy. You have time to savor each spot, with hour and a half stops at some points - definitely head for the scallops in Lunenburg. Furthermore, our guide, Sam, gave us different options to choose from based on everyone's preferences (I advise you to take advantage of seeing the most). The conversation throughout the trip was very pleasant, with historical information and explanations about each location and its history. I learned a lot, and I will always carry something from this trip with me.

We are 4 adults traveling together. We will arrive in Halifax on October 17th on the Seabourn Quest cruise ship. Do you pick up / drop off from the cruise ship docks? Please let us know asap. We are ready to book this tour if you will pick us up and deliver us back to the ship. We do not have to worry about rushing back to the ship because the ship leaves at 11:00pm. Thanks! JH

I don’t work for the tour company, just a tourist like you. But when you book the tour, it asks where you need to be picked up, so you enter it on the reservation form. Sam will then confirm the location back via email. You’ll love the tour!!! Enjoy!!

If we were to take this tour, is it possible to eliminate Peggy's Cove, as we have already been there, and replace it with Mahoney Bay, along with Lunenberg? And...could we do this from our ship's arrival at 8 am and leave at 4 pm. Would this be doable?

Sam goes through Mahoney Bay and Lunenberg as part of her trip. She has a set route which includes Peggy’s Cove, so I don’t believe eliminating that is an option. Regarding the ship timing it may be tight. She picked us up at 9am and we returned at 5, so you may want to check with her Directly to be safe. Hope this is helpful.
