A terrific tour and guide - Stephen gave me the warmest welcome on the coldest of days to the Bannockburn site, beloved of both him and his gorgeous dog, Molly. His passionate and brilliantly informative tour of the site was fascinating, insightful and freshly told in Stephen’s own words - no hint of a spiel. It was balanced in content to include songs and poems, lesser known facts (eg on unsung heroes and heroines), and even some competing theories on how the battle was won. He went above and beyond to respond to all my questions - of which I had many, being there on a research trip. Highly recommend - any time of year!

Excellent, varied and informative tour with Steve and Molly to bring the site to life with the story and people of the Battle. Like many people I suspect I knew a bit but learned a lot more to fill in all the gaps I had to learn the full story, and loved the additional focus on the musical and poetic heritage which has evolved and lived on ever since. Particularly good that it is so interactive, with Steve encouraging you to share you own knowledge and views with him as you go along.

We did the Freedom tour of Stirling Bridge and there were quite a few things I didn't know surpringsly , my husband is French but speaks good English but Stephen took the time to make sure he understood everything .
He makes it fun and interesting mixing it with media on iPad as well as songs so it's not all just talking at us , was great really enjoyed it , well worth the money , a must to get in to the historical side before visiting any other sites

Thank you Samantha Jane and Julien. We enjoyed meeting you both today. Molly and I love welcoming visitors to Stirling and today was no exception. So much history in the local area, it is difficult to leave bits out. One part that we may have missed was Isabella MacDuff - Molly's favourite. We always include her in the Bannockburn Tour, but less so at Stirling Bridge. In Wallaces lifetime, Edward I had King John Balliol in Exile, stolen the Stone of Destiny and the Crown Jewelsof Scotland. By 1306, the year after William Wallace's execution, Edward held the 4 Aces when you add in young Duncan MacDuff, Earl of Fife - the Kingmaker. Molly wrote a wee poem about Isabella MacDuff and her role in the Wars of Independence.

but now to that number, we’ll add just one more.
Known as the Countess of Buchan to more than a few,
and the Lady in the Cage, for she loved Scotland true.
Of all our medieval heroes few have shone brighter,
than Isabella MacDuff, the most fearless of Fifers.
Her young brother Duncan, held captive by force,
she rode up to Scone, to quench Freedom's thirst.
Bishops Lamberton & Wishart conducted the ceremony,
before Lady Isabella would arrive at Scone Abbey.
Though as a MacDuff, she demanded her Clan rite,
crowned the Bruce KIng, as a usurper sealed her plight.
For years Isabella hung in a cage from Berwick Castle,
her only ‘crime’, being brave, true and loyal.
Longshanks instructions “keep her barely alive”
for his crimes towards Isabella, she was immortalised.

Steven is a highly knowledgeable, helpful, and accomodating guide. On the day of my tour, he was very happy to pick me up at a convenient spot, and to include Stirling Bridge ìnto what I had originally booked as the Battlefield Tour. In the end, he even dropped me off at my hotel after giving me a tour of the environs as they related to the battle! Rarely have I experienced such a level of concern for the members of a touring party.
Steven is clearly passionate about the history of Scotland and the region, and I got a real tour de force of it. and took away a lot of information that will stay with me. Maybe the scene could be set with a little more context, but he nevertheless managed to leave a lasting impression. It's also nice to get some nuance on Braveheart.
Steve comes with Molly, a lovely dog - not a huge problem, but maybe worth mentioning in the tour description.

Hi Jon, thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We don't always have time to add in extras, but as you were travelling on your own, and we had a spare afternoon, it was great to spend a bit more time on both battles and locations.
Molly is going to update her presence on TripAdvisor.

Bruce the Bruce had the advantage of 'Drone Footage' with Sir Alexander Seaton's Defection on the eve of day 2 of the Battle!

We mistakenly booked the stirling bridge tour but steven was very kind and changed us to bannockburn at short notice, and then gave us info on the bridge history as a bonus.
He and molly his dog were great tour guides and both adults and the 7 year old were fascinated by how he brought history to life. It was a friendly, family experience. We will be back.

We had a fantastic tour of of the Bannockburn site, hosted by Steven and the lovely Mollie! Steven is a really friendly guy who really has a fantastic knowledge of the battle. We would highly recommend this tour and hope
to come back and do the Stirling Bridge tour if we are ever in Edinburgh again. Thanks Steven and Mollie!

As someone who has visited Bannockburn Battlefield before I wanted to share it with my family. Stevie from Freedom Tours did an amazing job of enthusiastically sharing the history of the site and Scotland with us making this a much more enjoyable visit that simply taking a photograph at the monument!

A really good experience and Steven was very interesting as he gave his take on the events surrounding the battlefield and the various characters involved. He is obviously very passionate about Scottish history (very knowledgeable) and has a great storytelling manner. His lovely dog Molly was an added bonus.
This activity is well worth the very reasonable ticket price.
As this was an outside walking tour there was plenty of self distancing that minimised any need for PPE although you could wear masks if you wanted too.

Thank you William and Doris. Really enjoyed meeting you both. With more local visitors, Molly and I have to be on the ball, so it is great to get positive feedback from you. My husband and I had a great tour from Steven and surprise but wonderful guide Molly today. It was a last minute booking for my birthday today and it’s been the highlight. Steven has a wealth of knowledge and gave us loads of recommendations on what else we could do and even movies to watch on the same subject. Can not recommend enough. Thanks to both of you!
