The tour was great, and the staff was nice. You might want to consider bringing a light jacket, it can get a little chilly on the mountain.

Keep in mind you have to arrive at 3 AM. You should get a text, I did not get one. When you get up to 10,000 feet it is extremely cold. We had extreme wind and rain on March 9th. The pre- sunrise was stunning but then the clouds rolled in so we didn’t get to see the sunrise at all. They pay another company to take you to the top and they were great guys, except they DO NOT KNOW HOW TO TURN ON THE F’ING HEAT in this very luxurious bus. So, we FROZE the entire time. We had on long sleeve layers, pants and brought blankets too. Wear full winter gear!!! Once we finally got into the Maui Rider passenger van we turned on the heat ourselves and warmed up a bit. The first ride down was very cold. If you have gloves and hat you’ll be better off. They had a few jackets to loan out, but most did not get one. The second two rides were more enjoyable bc it warms up around 9 AM. The stop for breakfast is not included so plan on $25-$30 PP for that meal. The last 6-mile leg is nice. Warm and lots to see. One and done for us, we won’t do it again.

Yes it can be cold at 10,000 feet that's why we recommend dressing in layers and bringing warm clothes. Anyone headed up for sunrise on Haleakala should know it can be COLD!!! The professional drivers do know how to turn the heat on in the vehicles they drive everyday however there is a regulation in Haleakala National Park that vehicles cannot not be running while at the top of the mountain due to environmental reasons. As you discussed with Nani on the day of the tour you were shown the text message that was sent from her to you the day before. Guests can choose a variety of places to get food in Makawao that range in price but where you chose to eat is on the pricier side because its a local farm to table restaurant. We appreciate your feedback.

I was a little nervous before going on this but Nani and Joe made us feel so comfortable. They definitely know their stuff and care about everyone's safety. Exactly how you would want your tour guides to be. They checked in on everyone to make sure we all had a great time. I will definitely be recommending them to everyone I know that makes it out to Maui.

If you are looking for a great relaxing long bike ride down a mt., try a different island. Maui has made it impossible to coast down from Haleakala due to not being able to begin within the park or go through various towns. The ride (while interesting) consists of going down approx. 8 miles and then loading up and repeating the adventure. Not what I was looking for.

The bike tours have changed over the years due to government restrictions and regulations. Riding bikes in Haleakala National Park ended in 2007. Instead you can do a van tour of the park and drop to 6500 feet to start the bike ride. The tours proceed through the switchbacks and then down Baldwin Ave through the pineapple fields and shower trees. It is still the longest bike ride in the Hawaiian Islands.

It was breathtaking. Forget "layers," and think, "20-30°F" before sunrise– about 45 minutes after you arrive… Now, you understand. Different Tours used different bicycles from single speed to 24 speed Mountain bikes. You do not need to peddle but for one section, that is, approximately 1/10 of a mile, if that. The interruption in the ride for the town below is unfortunate, but some groups ride the top twice to make up for the loss. You do not need to be an experienced rider, but it only adds to the fun. I took off a point because of the requested heavy tipping after paying a premium (>$250)for the opportunity to ride in a van, use a simple bike and helmetand pay our way for breakfast. No vouchers. It was a little excessive.

Nani and Joe took great care of us - and had us laughing all the time. These two are professionals and love what they do and where they live.

I’m a cyclist and had fun - so you will do!

My sister, my daughter and I booked our trip after we already arrived in Maui, our first mistake, as we had no ability to dress in layers. Our second mistake was booking on Viator, their website only says just that: Dress in layers. I hate to say our third mistake was booking with mountain riders because I absolutely loved Joe our bike guide and Spencer our bus driver and the experience was incredible and I will remember it for a lifetime.. The problem was with the women who answered the phone when I called and the women who was at the office when we arrived for our tour.
The problem started when We got a text 12 hours before our trip warning that it will be 30 degrees on the summit. It would have been nice to have been sent that immediately after booking, it would have given us more time to gather warm clothing. I called to talk to them as we were not prepared for that. I was treated so rudely over the phone. I was just looking for advice and the women said I don't know what to tell you. I told her she wasn't helpful and she got ruder. No where on the Viator website does it mention how cold it will be. It does mention directly on Mountain Riders website that wind breakers are recommended. If I had booked directly with them, I might have seen that. All she had to say to me was that she would talk to her marketing department which honestly made me feel like it is a marketing ploy to not inform people about how cold it will be to not scare potential customers away. Other companies offer jackets and windbreaker blankets. If like me you are not prepared for 30degree weather that might be a better option. I reached out to mountain riders again through email as calling and talking to the rude women wasn't helpful to let them know my concern and they suggested to bring blankets, super helpful if it wasn't 5 hour after my tour started.Be warned its freezing and windy up there.
The rudeness of the women I encountered over the phone continued on the day of the trip. While my sister was filling out the waiver, she had some legitimate questions. She was concerned about the risk of death and tried to talk and ask questions and Nannis response was I don't have to answer that. My sister choose to not go because she didn't want to die. I wish mountain riders had a kinder, warmer customer service team. The guides were both incredibly helpful and informative. I loved the history lesson and stories from both Joe and Spencer. Joe had a talent of making every rider feel comfortable. It was very unfortunate that my sister missed out on the experience because Naanni didn't want to do her job and answer some legitimate concerns.
My daughter and I had the best time on the trip. The sunrise was incredible. The bike ride was exhilarating, not scary or a death trap like the waiver made my sister feel and Naanni reinforced with her inability to take the time to answer her questions. She made it seem like people died all the time on the trip. Overall I rate the experience a 10 out of 10, guides 10 out of 10 and customer service a minus 10.

We inform the guests that it is cold up at 10,000 feet and dressing in layers is recommended. This guest in particular responded with hostility and anger to the information. As well as she did not want to fill out our waiver which is mandatory per our insurance company. We are permitted and licensed through the County of Maui and certain verbiage is mandatory on our waiver. It is important that everyone is informed correctly and fully. It is important to point out the person writing this review is not the person who supposedly had the experience. It is another guest writing a review for someone else and did not encounter the person she is referring to. The person who refused to fill out the waiver was refunded and never made any complaint. It is our utmost concern for people to have a safe and comfortable experience.

One of the best experiences ever. I loved the sunrise though it was too cold and then the bike ride was amazing. This group were so caring and entertaining, my friends and I had a blast and without a doubt we would do it again.

At a time it felt as if why we are subjecting ourselves to the brutality of waking up at 130 AM, bearing super super cold and windy weather, and then biking down empty stomach. But the experience has to be one of the best of all the experiences we have had. It is an early morning but prompt start; it is cold at the top and the winds make it worse (we found a large rock and stood behind it for a long while). If you can have a tripod for a time lapse of the sunrise it is fantastic. The scenery is beautiful. The bike ride down felt like the instructors were well in control. It is more like a skateboarding that a bike ride because you hardly ever pedal or break into a sweat. However you do need to use the brakes quite a bit else you feel out of control. The stop at Paui is a nice one for a much needed breakfast. Overall very very fun experience

Nani, Everett and Joe were amazing!! The early morning is definitely worth the wake up. The guides were fantastic and took all riding abilities into play. Options to stop if uncomfortable were easy. Hauling ass down the hill for the adventure seekers was also GREAT! The information we learned was fun and educational. My only advice…there is no damn coffee anywhere for the first five hours and it’s stupid early so make some and bring it with you. Maybe a pair of gloves. It is cold and I like cold weather.

Probably if you let them know ahead of time so they don't pack a bike and helmet for the person not wanting to ride. But the wait will be long as the ride is a couple of hours.

Unless you are an avid, everyday bike enthusiast, this is NOT the tour for you. It is extremely fast! I would not take a child on this tour at all. In my opinion it would be very dangerous for kids.

I would talk to them directly but I don't think there would be any issues with you doing the tour as long as you can ride a bike! I think they take kids as well. They adjust the bikes for each person.
