In the morning, I randomly texted the company to see if it was possible to do a last minute Madu River safari as I was passing through town on my way from Galle up to Colombo. The whole process was easy to arrange and the staff were so helpful; they were in constant communication with me to make sure I made it to the correct place, and were helpful about offering a car if I wanted. Since I was solo and would be paying $35 for the boat and trip, I wanted to save money and take the bus. Mr Anura literally met me at the bus stop as soon as I got off, and brought me to his home/office. His family held onto my luggage while I took the 2 hour river safari.
This included a visit to a temple, cinnamon plantation, and wildlife viewing from the boat. The boat driver was friendly and pointed out many animals as we rode around the river. Highlight was seeing a ton of jellyfish and some eagles!
After the trip, Mr. Anura and his daughter met me back at the dock and took me back to his home. His wife gave me fresh juice and then he showed me the nearest bus stop and waited with me until it came.
I can only HIGHLY recommend this tour!
