This was an incredible experience, filled with tranquility and enlightenment. Our host, Ikuyo, was exceptionally warm and welcoming. The ceremony, along with the historical context provided, was highly informative and offered deep insights into the significance of tea in Japanese culture. I wholeheartedly recommend this ceremony to anyone planning to visit Yokohama in the future.

I had the honor to attend Ikuyo's tea ceremony twice and it was always the highlight of my trip to Japan! It is a truly authentic experience and Ikuyo is a very kind and articulate teacher. We got to learn how to make matcha as well as enjoyed wagashi - Japanese sweets. Both my husband and I shall truly hold this experience dear for the years to come.

The Japanese tea ceremony was a wonderful experience! Our hosts were lovely and very accommodating, and their space was clean and beautiful. Ikuyo-san is highly experienced and knowledgeable about Japanese tea ceremony and other areas of Japanese culture, so it was enriching to learn from her.

I had the extraordinary privilege of attending a private Japanese Tea Ceremony hosted by Ikuyo who has been studying and practicing this art form for over 40 years and her husband Keita. This was not just a ceremony but an unforgettable immersion into Japanese culture, history, and hospitality.
From the moment I entered, I felt transported into a serene world of tradition and mindfulness. Every gesture, from the meticulous preparation of the tea to the graceful movements of our hosts, reflected decades of dedication and deep understanding of this ancient art. They patiently explained the significance of each step and answered our questions with warmth and enthusiasm, making it both educational and deeply personal.
What made the experience even more special was the opportunity to actively participate. We were invited to prepare tea ourselves under their guidance, allowing us to fully appreciate the intricacy and meditative focus that goes into every step. Additionally, we were treated to wagashi—exquisite traditional sweets—handmade by our host. The balance of flavors between the wagashi and the matcha tea was divine and added an extra layer of authenticity to the experience.
The setting was tranquil and authentic, offering a perfect backdrop for such a profound experience. I was particularly moved by how the ceremony emphasized harmony, serenity, respect, and connection—values that transcended cultural boundaries and left a lasting impression on me.
If you ever have the chance to attend a traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony, especially one led by such accomplished and passionate hosts, do not hesitate. It is an experience that will stay with you for a lifetime and deepen your appreciation for Japanese culture.

I had the pleasure of participating in a tea ceremony and lesson with Ikuyo at her home outside of Yokohama. It was a fascinating experience and was easily one of the highlights of my recent trip to Tokyo. Ikuyo taught the history and practice of the tea ceremony with great passion and care, and as an observer, I was impressed by the serenity of the experience. She also took ample time to answer all of our questions with insight and humor.
As tourists, we are frequently drawn to activities and places that are manufactured entertainment experiences that do more to obscure the actual cultures of the countries we are visiting, rather than teach about them. Ikuyo's tea ceremony, however, is the exact opposite of the typical tourist trap. It is a beautiful, culturally authentic, and deeply immersive experience that leaves you with an appreciation for this ancient Japanese tradition.
I wholeheartedly recommend Ikuyo's classes to anyone visiting Tokyo or Yokohama.

It's my second time in Tokyo and second time attending Tea Ceremony by Ikuyo at her house. This experience is so much more than just tea, it is about Japanese culture, hospitality, tradition and a way of life.
The whole experience is very comfortable. After arriving at the house Ikuyo seated me in tatami room, she gave an overall explanation of the room decoration and tea ceremony tradition. Season is very important, so guests may have different experience depending on when they visit. During tea ceremony she guided through the steps that guest had to do and described the steps she did. The critical moments of the ceremony were done in silence, but she answered any questions later. Sitting on the knees is a bit uncomfortable if you are not used to it, but if you can - it makes it for a better experience.
Overall I highly recommend to attend tea ceremony while visiting Japan, Ikuyo is an amazing host and guide into Japanese culture.

An unforgettable experience for anyone interested in Japanese tea culture. In a traditional and relaxed atmosphere, there will be an introduction to the background and practice of a long tradition of Japanese tea culture. The teacher is very pleasant and provides a great experience even for beginners. I recommend a visit to anyone who is in Tokyo! I would love to come back!

It was an amazing experience with Master Kono and her husband. Master Kono has been very repsonsive and messaged me promplty immediately after I made the booking. We were given very clear instructions for the pickup and her husband gave us a round trip from station to their home/classroom.
Master Kono was very professional and explained the history and procedures of tea ceremony to us patiently. Her English was fluent and easy to understand. Homemade wakashi by Master Kono tasted wonderfully delicious! It was a very nice afternoon chit-chating and learing about tea ceremony with Master Kono and her husband. Will definitely come again for the next visit in Tokyo.
