Loved this alternative route to the top of Fushimi Inari with Naro. The walk was peaceful and less crowded. We were able to talk and learn about Japanese history and culture. Easy to take photos and enjoy nature. There are significantly less people at the top, and still tons of Toriis. Naro provided us with excellent recommendations for restaurants later. Great experience and thoroughly enjoyed!

Naru was a great guide! This was our second day in Kyoto so our knowledge was still very limited but he was able to teach us so many things about the area, the shrines all while enjoying the solitude of the path he took us on. Definitely recommend people to take this route as it will give you more opportunity to appreciate the environment without the noise and crowds. Great day spent learning and getting some much needed exercise before we stuff our faces with more ramen 😂

The tour was absolutely breathtaking. We were a family of 4, and we enjoyed a lot. We thought that the hike would be very challenging, but it was a lot more fun than what we had thought. 100% recommend anyone to choose this tour. Tammy-san was a great and energetic guide and knew the historical significances of the place very well.

I was greeted by Tammy at the meeting point. Soon after, met the co-host, Nina. We started our journey and soon made a brief unexpected stop at an Ice-cream shop. The ice cream was called "Kyoto White Miso" made up of soy milk. It was surprisingly good.
We continued and went through a path where there were almost no folks. It was a trail in the wild. On the way, Tammy explained things around Shintoism, Buddhism and Torii gates. We all were talking about something or the other during the walk.
We soon reached a bamboo forest and clicked some pictures there. To be honest, we took a lot of pictures during the tour :P. We then joined the Fushimi Inari shrine somewhere in between. But afterwards, we covered the entire place and prayed at a few shrines. Tammy taught us how to pray at a shrine. She also told us about the history and stories of the shrines.
The hike was almost 7 kms long and took 3 hrs 15 minutes. At the end, thanked the hosts for such an amazing experience and parted our ways.

Fushimi Inari is incredibly crowded however Tammy’s tour took us to the top of the mountain via a different path that was nearly empty. We were able to see shrines as well along the way. This was definitely a unique experience that I would recommend to anyone trying to see the shrine but without most of the crowds.

Having the meaning of the different symbols, artifacts and rituals explained by a guide makes a big difference when visiting the shrine. Much better than walking around on your own. Our guide Chihiro was very knowledgeable and nice. The walk was surprisingly long, but in a good way. All in all a rewarding afternoon. Highly recommended.
