This was a good food experience, but not great. My husband is a vegetarian, but does eat meat and dairy. Our first spot was perfect, seafood and fun spot. The next 2 dining spots did not have great veggie or seafood options. We loved talking to our guide, learning about Nagano and exploring some areas we would have not seen on our own. We just thought for the price the food could have been a little better.

Thank you for joining our Izakaya Food Tour in Nagano, and for taking the time to share your thoughts. We’re very glad to hear that you enjoyed exploring parts of the city off the beaten path and appreciated your time with the guide.
Before the tour, you kindly let us know that your husband is a vegetarian who eats dairy and fish but not meat. While we always encourage guests to inform us of dietary needs at the time of booking to help us better prepare, we received this information the day before your tour. We still made several adjustments accordingly, even with the short notice.
We also noticed that the dietary description in your review differs slightly from what was shared beforehand. To clarify, our team made arrangements under the assumption that meat was to be avoided, as noted in your original message.
For the first stop, we chose a seafood-focused restaurant not usually included in our tours. We arranged a more extensive course than usual, featuring a welcome drink, two kinds of sunomono, assorted sashimi, three kinds of tempura, and two pieces of sushi—hoping this special lineup would enhance your experience.
At the second stop, we initially planned to visit a soba restaurant (a common vegetarian-friendly choice), but when asked, your husband expressed interest in soba while you mentioned you didn’t prefer it. So, we shifted the plan to a ramen restaurant. You seemed to enjoy the ramen, and we prepared vegetable fried rice for your husband, offering to order additional items if needed and checking in multiple times.
At the final stop, we served pescatarian-friendly dishes such as cucumber with chikuwa and deep-fried squid. You enjoyed a full plate of gyoza, and we continued to check in to make sure everything was okay.
Since there were no other guests that evening, we were happy to adjust freely to your preferences. While we’re sorry that your husband’s food experience didn’t fully meet expectations, we genuinely did our best based on the details provided. Your feedback is appreciated and helps us continue refining our service for future guests with dietary needs.

A very personalised tour led by Masa who gave us many insights to the culture and food of Nagano. He took us to local food places that we would have missed and the variety of food was delicious. Highly recommend this tour!

We did the tour with Masa as our guide and had a great experience! He showed us some great local places you normally wouldn’t visit as a tourist and were generally nice to chat with. Strongly recommend!

Robin, our tour guide was fantastic. He took us to 3 different izakaya all with different local flares. Robin was as extremely knowledgable about the area and the Japanese customs, having lived in Japan for a number of years. I think it was especially helpful that he was able to give some tidbits about Japanese society from the foreigners point of view. I was stuffed by the end of our 3+ hour food tour. I highly recommend it!

Great time with Robin. Enjoyed exploring other parts of Nagano that we wouldn’t normally had visited. Yummy soba noodles, sushi, and gyozas at 3 different restaurants.

This experience was well worth it! Our guide Masa was an absolute legend, very personable and made for great conversation along with our fellow tour attendees Emily and Chris. We visited some really genuine local Nagano restaurants, ate amazing food at each stop, and had plenty of great conversations. We would highly recommend this tour for anyone, but especially first-timers in Nagano. We finished the night not only with full tummies, but fulfilled with a wonderful vibe experiencing magical Nagano with a top notch local guide. 10/10!

We did the izakaya food tour with Masa and it’s one of the best things we did on our trip. Masa brought us to some great local izakayas that we wouldn’t have ever found or gone to ourselves.
He was super informative; explaining all the different dishes not just from Nagano but all around the country. He was also great to answer questions or queries on Japan and just to have a nice chat. Would definitely recommend!

What an amazing tour! The guide Musa was very friendly and easygoing. He took us to restaurants that I would never find myself and the food was delicious. The local specialty soba was awesome, but I personally love the yakitori and tsukune better, the combination of the delicious sauce and juicy meat were just perfect. Will definitely book again when I have the chance in future.

This was a wonderful tour around Nagano's izakayas! Masa knew all the places to go including a soba noodle shop that has been ran by the same lady for over 50 years! Masa was lovely to spend time with and easy to talk to. He's very knowledgeable about the local area but also gave recommendations throughout Japan. If you get the opportunity I would do any tour that masa offers as he is a great entertainer and fun to spend time with! Highly recommend!
