This was the best cycling tour I've been on. We did the Noto/Kanazawa/Kyoto moderate tour, and I didn't realise how stunning Japanese scenery was.
I wasn't as fit as I thought I was for the tour. But I felt completely supported by Akira and his team. I even did the last part of one ascent in the van, no problem.
The food was delicious - traditionally prepared seafood with other locally sourced ingredients - much of it served in traditional Japanese inns.
We tried our hand at laquering a plate in Wajiima (and were presented with our handywork), were given a talk by the monk at an ancient woodland temple, and shown round a geisha museum where I had a turn on a traditional drum - one of the instruments used in the geisha house.
I cannot recommend Okatours enough. Thanks Akira, Atsushi, Taku and Giro!

We did the six nights Sado Island tour as a GSP-track self guided tour this May with pre-booked hotels, transfers, meals and luggage transport. We’re experienced in cycling holidays all over Europe, in Tanzania as well as in China and Japan. But never had such a luxurious trip before - Ryokans were outstanding and thoroughly selected, and each meal was a feast. Akira and Taku were extremely well organized, reliable and friendly and helpful to whatever question arose. Landscapes were breathtaking, and roads were quiet and thoroughly chosen for what’s possible in a car oriented country like Japan.
Tripadvisor says to share the bad, too - but can’t think of any.
We got so much more for our money than we expected beforehand from the rather plain tour description. Thank you, Akira and Taku, we had a wonderful week.
And to all others: we absolutely recommend booking with Oka Tours!

Long time (30+ years) cyclist, first time on a guided trip, but since it was Japan and I don't speak the language, it was a no-brainer. My wife (a rookie rider with limited experience) played it safe with a Giant hybrid e-bike for an eight-day 400km trip around the Noto Peninsula and eventually down to Kyoto. She aced it and left me for dead on a monster nine km climb, which was never part of my script! Hahahahaha.
There were another 11 riders on the tour, all mixed abilities and experience, a variety of bikes too but all in good nick (I brought my own pedals and saddle for the hired Giant road bike though). No punctures, no crashes, beautiful scenery, just astonishingly quiet roads, mostly billiard-table smooth too. The route was gently undulating on six days, with a couple of tough 'climbing' days near the end, but by then everyone was in the groove.
Our four Japanese guides and mini-bus drivers/mechanics/food guides/history teachers/language instructors were always there, the pace was modest -- designed to suit all -- but all you want to do is soak up the scenery and take pics. If you want to hammer along on some kind of training camp, this is probably not for you. If, on the other hand, you want to see Japan, learn about Japan, visit awesome Japanese inns and avoid corporate chain hotels, soak in onsen after a long day, eat legit Japanese food, stop at a temple or two, get great support and plenty of laughs, honest to god, you can't go wrong.
Spend time in quiet seaside villages, a thatched-roof guest-house, then swanky hotels in Kanazawa and Kyoto, you get to experience it all. One of the best holidays of my life, no doubt.

We engaged Akira to organise two biking weeks for us between weekend games at the World Cup Rugby tournament in Oct 2019. He put together two outstanding itineraries for us, one around the Noto Peninsular and the other around Mt Fuji and Izu area. Both were outstanding and gave us a real insight into the gorgeous Japanese countryside. Nothing was too much trouble for Akira and "Uncle" - food and accommodation was spot on. If you are looking to bike in Japan, Oka tours is the way to go!!

We recently returned from two excellent cycling tours with Oka Tours in Japan and enjoyed both immensely. We originally signed up for the Noto Peninsula tour and were so impressed with all the organization and care we were shown that we decided to do a second tour with Oka Tours.
The first tour was on the Noto Peninsula while the second was in Shikoku and the Seto Sea.
Each was 8 days in total with distances ranging from 42K to 86K. The guide Atsushi and his assistant Taku were amazingly resourceful and thoughtful, taking everyone’s strengths and cycling ability into account. The daily routine was often augmented with ferry rides and train journeys, thus increasing the total distance of the journey. In addition we were guided through many temples, shrines, and unique areas in cities and towns we visited. Akira joined us part-way through the second tour; his contributions and thoughtfulness added so much to our experience.
On the first day one of the stops was in Wijama at a lacquer workshop where we were guided through the process of painting our own lacquer-wear plate.
The hotel rooms chosen for each tour were beautiful and relaxing; many featuring onsen and traditionally and beautifully prepared and served meals. Our vegetarian preference was handled well. On two occasions where our accommodation did not provide an onsen, we were driven to and from a public bath which was an amazing local experience.
We hope to return to Japan to cycle the Haikaido region with Oka tours in the spring of 2020 or fall of 2021.

I can't say enough good things about my experience with this company. My tour of Noto/Kanazawa/Kyoto in April 2019 was a magnificent experience. The epic scenery, the food, the lodging, comradery, and especially Akira's human touch. Such a terrific guy. The final leg of a three-month journey in Asia, it was hands-down favorite experience.

Such fun. Extremely well organised.Routes always varied and interesting from beautiful Japanese farmland to mountains lakes volcanoes wilderness coastline and fishing villages. We even saw Russia.
Tour guides Arika and Taku where perfect.
I was at the back of the group but was never rushed and was very comfortable whereas I think the ones at the front where able to extend themselves.
Always interesting places to have breaks.
The accommodation was great and varied and always an onsen which is so relaxing after big rides
The food was magnificent.
Altogether excellent.

My family and I recently completed a 5-day trip custom trip around Sado Island with Oka tours and it was truly spectacular. We were a group of 6 people ranging from our late 20s to early 60s, and beginner to expert level cyclists. Akira arranged well planned routes with a mix of scenic views and frequent stops to accommodate all levels of riders. We stayed at beautiful Japanese inns and had excellent meals. Our guides, Akira and Atsushi went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and enjoying our trip. One day it rained, and we weren't all in the mood to cycle. Instead Akira arranged a number of cultural experiences for us including Sake tastings and a pottery session, so that we were able to experience Sado island's culture.
We would highly recommend Oka Tours, and will be back for the Hokkaido trip soon! Thank you Akira- San for a once in a lifetime experience.

We did the 7-day Hokkaido cycling tour across the Akan Manshu and Shiretoko National Parks in northeastern Hokkaido and the whole tour was incredible. It was a small group. The countryside was beautiful. The routes were very well planned with a great mix of breaks and scenic stops for sightseeing. There was a mix of moderate, Western-style hotels, but the most wonderful were the more Japanese hotels with traditional rooms (they lay out a tatami mat for sleeping at night) and the onsen (the hot spring fed baths, which are wonderful to relax in after a full day of cycling). The food throughout was outstanding, with several traditional Japanese dinners at some of the hotels, stops at local ramen shops, and visits to Izekayas (Japanese casual dining and drinking restaurants). Our guides Akira and Taku were incredibly attentive to the needs of every guest throughout, they put safety of the group first, but also worked very hard to ensure we all had a fantastic time. I could not recommend Oka Tours more highly.

This is a well run, local Japanese company doing cycle tours. The groups are kept small, we were 8 people. The trip had a great balance of cycling and culture. The cycling was over varied terrain with some hills but that also means some downhills! The scenery was great as we cycled along the coast and inland. The leaves were just coming out on the teees which gave the mountains a lovely light green colour mixed with the dark green of the cypress and cedar. There were still cherry blossoms too, even in later April. The trip started with a flight from Tokyo to Noto and had two small train trips in it to keep the timing down to 8 days. Akira Oka is the owner of the company and he was our guide. He is fully fluent in English and very knowledgeable about his country. He acted as our personal tour guide to see and interprt sights in Kanazawa and Kyoto. There was a support van and driver with us to carry luggage, fix flats, provide snacks, water. The cycles were in great condition and had odeometer/speedometers on them. We were supplied with an Oka Tours water bottle and jersey to keep. We supplied our own helmets. We changed hotels every night except for the last two nights in Kyoto. There is a great balance of accommodations between western style hotels and traditional ryokans. The ryokans and onsen baths are a tremendous new cultural experience for foreigners. And oh my goodness the food is wonderful all the way, especially the traditional Japanese meals. This is a great trip for cycling and for experiencing Japanese food, culture and sights.
