My husband and I love taking cooking classes, so when we found out about Simply Oishii on a recent visit to Tokyo, we signed ourselves and two friends up for the Japanese Style Cocktail Party class. It was truly an amazing experience! Miyuki was so warm and friendly that she made us all feel right at home from the moment we stepped in the door of her lovely home. Miyuki speaks fluent English and is an excellent teacher. She'd first show us how to do something then would help us as we tried it ourselves. She also shared lots of "tips and tricks," all of which were included in her wonderful recipe book so we didn't have to scramble to take notes as she talked. The end result - 5 incredible cocktail food dishes that were both beautiful to look at and super tasty. And the recipes were easy enough that we've been able to make them again now that we're back home. Thank you, Miyuki, for a great class and a great experience. We had such fun and we recommend your class to everyone who visits Tokyo!

Learning to cook amazing Japanese cocktail dishes with Miyuki was a highlight of our trip to Tokyo. She made the learning 'simply' wonderful with her warm and welcoming approach. We learned each step of the process and then got to eat the amazing results. She also provides a nice guide to help you replicate the learning at home. We felt like part of her family and she was so willing to answer all the questions we had about dining in Japan. Thank you, Miyuki, for sharing your home and talents with us. It was an amazing class and an experience we'll remember forever.

Every foreign countries we visited, we always try to take a food class to learn a little more about their culture and history behind their cuisine.
In Japan, the sweet treats are very colorful and seems magical. My wife and I signed for Mochi & Hagashi class from Simply Oishii. It was unforgettable terrific experience. Our instructor Muyuki was very knowledge and skillful.
We made three different types of sweet treats - Daifuku Mochi, Hanami Dango, and Nerikiri
Daifuku Mochi:
Daifuku is a confection consisting of a small round mochi (glutinous rice cake) stuffed with sweet filling, most commonly anko, sweetened red bean paste made from azuki beans. from. Sometimes with a sweet fruit inside the red bean paste.
Hanami Dango:
The sweet dumplings consist of sweetened rice flour and water made into a paste and moulded into bite-size balls. This traditional Japanese dessert is the perfect finishing. It has three colors - the red color symbolizes cherry blossoms, the white color portrays remaining snow, and the green color represents young grass.
Nerikiri:
Made from sticky rice flour, sugar and white bean or red bean, Nerikiri is usually molded into shapes such as flowers, fruits or birds to represent the four seasons.
Miyuki taught techniques in molding thin layer of mochi around Daifuku, shaping & handling the dough effectively into little balls for the Dongo, making chrysanthemum flowers with intricate design cuts and creating autumn leaves using color techniques for Nerikiri.
Miyuki was very helpful. As I followed along with my two left thumbs, my dough sample didn't even looked like her sample. She would come overly and miraculously
make it beautifully shaped.
And then, it was time to eat the sweet treats; but first, we needed to make matcha green tea the traditional way.
The traditional tea ceremony including the sweet treats of Wagashi balanced by the slightly bitter taste of matcha green tea.
The green tea is served in a distinctive artistic pottery. The right portions of green tea and boiling water is needed. Then, the mixture is whisked vigorous back and forth until the matcha powder has transformed into foam-top tea.
Miyuki shared stories about her mother and the formal tea ceremony. The traditional tea ceremony is a symbol of peace, harmony and happiness. It’s a spiritual experience that demonstrates respect through etiquette and grace, which are integral facets of Japanese culture.
I really enjoyed the Japanese sweet treats which were not overly sweet with the green tea with a ever so slight bitter taste. It was the right combination and balance.
Whenever I see Japanese sweet treats, I will fondly remembered my class experience, HAGASHI FOREVER ... from Simply Oishii.
NOTE: I received class confirmation after I paid for the class online three weeks before the class. It included a link to website with directions. I immediately review the instructions which included photos. It was well written. Use your phone GPS Map for overall guidance, but use Simple Oishii's directions to check your landmarks in the photos and final destination

Thank you Larry for the detailed description and interpretation of my class. I'm thrilled that you and your wife has enjoyed my mochi and wagashi class so much. It was also my great pleasure having you here, and I'm pleased that have understood about the Japanese culture and not just the sweets making process. I hope you and your wife will continue to travel and explore new countries and their culture. (I would definitely like to follow your path!). Take care!

We had a private Gyoza class with Yuki which was amazing! She was very knowledgable about Japanese cuisine and responsive to our (many) questions. We also learnt some things about Japanese eating etiquette which was helpful to know early on into our trip (we did the class on our 2nd day) - would highly recommend this experience and wished we had time to do another of Yuki's classes!

My family and a close friend signed up for the Gyoza making class not really knowing anything going into it. Miyuki was so organized and sent out detailed directions for how to get to the location, and then gave us a wonderful cooking class. She even catered to our picky eating and we had so much fun making delicious pan fried and boiled pork gyoza.
My daughter (who wouldn't go near a green vegetable if it had a $50 bill attached to it) ate an entire bowl of green beans due to the amazing dressing we helped make as part of a side dish.
Next time we're back in Tokyo we'll for sure take another class from Miyuki!

Thank you for coming to my gyoza class. It was my pleasure having your family and friends in my class. I'm glad that you all enjoyed making gyoza. (My son only eats cabbage if it's in the gyoza too). And I'm very impressed that you've tried making it at home as well. Hope you get to come to my other classes in the future!

My friend and I wanted to do something special during this Tokyo trip and we decided to find a workshop to join. We searched online and found some cooking classes and we picked this "simply oishii" class bento with omusubi. Luckily, the instructor was willing to accomodate us with the short notice.
I don't know how to cook at all but i enjoyed the class very much. We started with knowing the traditions and dos & don'ts of bento, and then we follow the steps that instructor showed us and prepared every dish together. I can't believe i can make my own bento and we ate the bentos we made as dinner after class. Making tamago-yaki is definitely fun! We even bought more ingredients from the supermarket and brought back home to make them on our own again! The instructor is very nice and helpful!
