The resurgence is wāhi tapu (sacred) to Māori, as the waters were considered healing, so it’s appreciated if you refrain from swimming there.

Very lovely walk and beautiful water, but please do not swim in the resurgence!! The water there is tapu (sacred) and important in a cultural sense.

Lovely gentle walk down to the water hole, that is apparently great for jumping in during the summer due to its depth. Spotted a few birds during our visit and if you’re in the area, it is well worth a visit.

Nice cave dive, quite safe and a great experience to dive. Water temp is cold but the visibility is excellent and it's a very safe dive, no need to rope through the first section. Second section is an easy swim through opens up to a very large cave which is great to explore after gearing off.

Also called Riuwaka Resurgence. A short walk through lush native bush. Quite cool and nice on a hot summer day, but not a must-see in the area which is full of nature beauty.

Make certain you take a camera as the walk has great photo opportunities.

If you are heading over the Takaka Hill, definitely take the detour to the Riwaka Resurgence! As a local, we bring all our guests here and they think it’s great. It’s a short, mostly flat, easy walk through native bush with loads of spots to take photos. Although you couldn’t take a wheelchair or pram right to the end, you can get most of the way and see some great scenery still. This is a must stop if in the area.

A very short walk, we did it with a 10 year only in crutches up until the stairs. After the stairs it’s a few more minutes to the resurgence.

It isn't widely advertised, but has a good car park and well maintained short track (about 300 metres) beside the beautiful crystal clear waters. The resurgence itself isn't as spectacular as a waterfall - more peaceful and looks extremely pure. Good for a short visit or a picnic.

A worthwhile detour at the bottom of the Takaka Hill Highway to see cool, clear water emerge from a cave system beneath Takaka Hill to form the Riwaka River. This is a beautiful and peaceful spot just a short walk from the carpark area.
