I was very surprised by the number of exhibits in this free to enter museum. Definitely worth a visit. I learned a lot about the original people and the sugar industry.

This is a small museum but it is worth the stop. It tells the history of the islands inhabitants. Interesting displays and very infomrative.

It is an easy hours worth of local history that I found to be a good base to understand the island. It is located conveniently in St. John - an easy walk from the docks.

Really interesting time spent at the museum. Exhibitions covered everything from how the islanders lived life over the centuries, both pre and post slavery and uprisings. Very thought provoking and sobering. A delightful group of young school children was there too, learning about their heritage. Well worth a visit

The museum is located on Market St. to the left when leaving the cruise terminal. It is a small building, a former court house, built in 1750. It opens at 8:30 AM and the fee is $3 US or EC$8.
The museum depicts early settlement by South American people 2000+ years BC then Arawack Indians in early AD followed by European settlement. Although small there are many interesting displays and artifacts. Allow an hour or so to do it justice.

Was on a 2 week Caribbean cruise and had a stop at Antigua. My pickup was at 10 and was heading off to Stingray city. I had time to kill and strolled around St.Johns to the nearby attractions.
The museum is quite ok and nothing great. There was an entrace fee of $5USD and i felt it was just not worth the exhibits. Many of the exhibits were mostly of Sir Vivian Richards as he was from Antigua. They also had lots of British artifacts and hence didn't pay for the full visit.

This museum was part of a St. John walking tour. It probably will only take you a half hour to check it out. While nicely done it is small.
They do have a washroom.....however.....you walk through a storage room to get to it and the washroom lacked supplies and wasn't in the best condition.

This is a down home, enlightened, varied museum with information about the islands from how the they were geologically created through the indigenous people and though the horror and trauma of colonialism. It's small and they have a really cook gift shop of all local artists and artisans. It was hot in there, but don't let that bother you!

A nice, albeit small museum re-counting the history of Antigua from geologic creation, indigenous periods through slavery / plantations and into the modern era. It's worth doing to get out of the sun for awhile and understand a bit more about the country.
