I notice all the Pale people leaving bad reviews saying it's dangerous and I'm glad you felt unsafe because I think we all a little tires of you Troglodytes feeling like you need to include yourself in our spaces.

We started to wander into the area, but as others have said, it doesn't feel too safe for visitors. I would give it a miss. If you do go keep expensive consumer goods out of sight.

Why would you wanna visit some place that you feel is dangerous because you nosey. Savan have a rich and beautiful history it was one of the first towns to form in St Thomas and it’s building structure is one of the oldest and richest in our history. So it’s like your going to tell them not to visit Jewish grave yard because it’s in and area where people have died or please don’t visit danish graveyard because of the history of people getting killed. People visit the VIrgin Islands because of our history and the part we played in America winning its war and keeping all of its tourists and people free and independent. So if you don’t want to visit a place that has all this rich history than don’t but please don’t be bashing without the correct information.

This place is amazing. So much rich history and beautiful architecture. I visited on a Saturday and was delighted to finally see locals selling local products. There were fishermen selling fresh fish and lots of loc all farmers. I got to taste a tamarind for the first time. Fell in love with coconut and guava tarts and or the first time was introduced to a real rastafarian community.
This place is absolutely amazing. In my opinion it should be the main attraction if the island. beaIt's beautiful. Some of the locals took me on a tour with a few other tourists to see the historic Jewish cemetary in Savan. amaIt's amazing. If you want to really experience the Virgin islands you must visit Savan.

This area is the hood of St. Thomas. There are drug dealers in the corners and the area is run by a gang. It is a historic part of Charlotte Amalia but do not go without a local guide!!!

Not recommended for tourist w/o a local guide can be extremely dangerous. Interesting historical buildings. Very small 1 and 2 way streets.

There are historical buildings here which are crumbling. Beautiful buildings -walked passed stunning church in service. Sadly the reputation of this place is not good. Shame more is not done to restore and preseve the buildings and sort the social issues. Otherwise fascinating. Not for night time though and more than two streets of main street might be being brave. Shame for the people who live here.

My wife was not happy that I dragged her here on her vacation. It wasn't that bad. Very colorful, historic houses and businesses. I've seen way worse in New Jersey. Don't think I'd venture out here in the dark, but during the day it's not so scary. Unless you're curious about hoods like I am, there's probably no reason to visit here.

Many of the first residents of Charlotte Amalie during the late 1700 and early 1800’s were freed Black people who settled in this part of the city, now called Savan, located west and north of the current tourist friendly shopping and historic area.
Starting west of Market Square on Main Street, this area is generally unsafe for tourists, especially at night, but we did find that the two blocks from Market Square west to the Cathedral of St Peter and St Paul and immediately around Market Square itself was full of colorful and historical buildings, including the Cathedral (1848) and the old St Thomas Bank Building (1836), and was busy enough during daylight, midweek business hours that we felt safe to visit this very small area of Savan. However, I would never venture beyond this small area at anytime and even here at night or times of light vehicle and foot traffic.
