The Peace Garden sits within Geraldine Harmsworth Park which also contains The Imperial War Museum . The two are, in fact , next to each other- a juxtaposition likely to give one pause for thought & intentional , I should imagine.
It was opened in 1999 by The Dalai Lama & is laid out in a way that is superficially pleasant & peaceful but also symbolically meaningful at a deeper level. At the centre of the garden is a Kalachakra Mandala , cast in bronze surrounded by 4 stone slabs , variously carved to represent The 4 Elements of earth , air, water & fire.
A stone Language Pillar is situated at the head of the walk leading to the Mandala. On it is a message from The Dalai Lama , carved into the stone - a different language on each of the 4 sides ; Hindi , English , Tibetan & Chinese.
Various Himalayan shrubs & plants are used in the garden.
A very restful space. I think a little more care regarding maintenance would not go amiss.

Even on a dull Autumnal day this was a nice bonus to our trip to the nearby Imperial War Museum and far more uplifting too.
A pretty little area to wander round and contemplate .
Plants and sculptures combine in both a formal and naturalistic way. Very pleasant indeed.

The Tibetan Peace Garden is one of w number of named spaces in the grounds of the Imperial War Museum. It commemorates the visit of the Dalai Lama in 1999 and features a stone column as well as an enclosed space with concrete slabs and a central sundial. Plants have not been terribly well tended but it remains a pleasant and peaceful space.

What a contrast, the big cannon in front of the war museum and this tiny garden inaugurated by the Dalai Lama.
There's an even bigger park close by, so enough space to roam and relax.

A lovely garden full of roses and peonies in late May offering a peaceful place for quiet contemplation or somewhere calm and cool for weary people to rest. We visited the War Museum first and balanced this with some time in the peace garden. I remember the Dalai Lama officially opening the garden and always wanted to visit. I wasn’t disappointed.

A garden with a theme of peace - just outside the Imperial War Museum! The garden was green, peaceful and inviting.
Worth stopping by if you are at the Museum.
Entrance is free.
There are no public toilets, but toilets are available in the Museum Cafe.

This is a cute garden next to the war museum. It's a nice little extra with roses and a big Tibetan style round monument of some sort. It's nice but don't go out of your way to see it.

Opened and consecrated by His Holiness the Dalai Lama in 1999, the Peace Garden (Samten Kyil), a poignant plea for peace, is ironically situated in the shadow of the Imperial War Museum. It honours one of the principal teachings of His Holiness – the need to create understanding between different cultures and to establish places of peace and harmony in the world. At the same time, the garden serves to create a greater awareness of Buddhist culture.
At its heart is the Kalachakra Mandala associated with world peace, forming the central focus of the garden; while contemporary western sculptures represent the four elements of air, fire, earth and water and are situated on a north, south, east, west axis. Near the garden’s entrance is the stone Language Pillar, containing a message of peace for this century in Tibetan, English, Chinese and Hindi.
Around the Mandala are eight meditation seats which represent the noble eightfold path of Buddhism. Samten Kyil means “Garden of Contemplation” and, for the spiritually minded, it is no longer an ordinary place but has a life of its own which serves as reminder, symbol, sanctuary, offering and zone of peace and inner content. For all of us though at this crucial time in world history, it surely remains a vital symbol to remind us that human survival depends on living in harmony and choosing the path of non-violence in resolving our differences.

Even on a cold wet winter's day there was something magic about the atmosphere in this garden. In contrast to the nearby Imperial War Museum it is an oasis of peace and calm. Sadly it waas too wet to sit on the seats and contemplate, but I will be back when the weather is better to get a fuller experience of the garden
