A Yorkshire hidden gem. Gorgeous house, so much to see and learn. Could easily spend a few hours here, return and find something new. The volunteers really make the effort with all guests and are a wealth of knowledge. They are all so lovely and will happily chat and answer any questions you might have. A really great afternoon out, will be back.

This was our second visit and the first time we went around the house, a very good and interesting visit.
On arrival we made our way to the car park and found plenty of space to park, we entered the stables to pay for access and noticed a very nice looking cafe area, as it was near lunch time we decided to have a light meal, both meals were really good and the staff excellent, the prices were very good and we really got value for the money.
We made our way through the stables to the house entrance, we were greeted by a very knowledgeable person who gave us a quick insight on how to proceed, the house is a hidden gem and the rooms were established to represent various periods in the house's history.
Each of the room guides gave us interesting information about the house and the people who have lived in the house.
We are certainly going to visit again the next time we are in the area.

A great place to visit and see history being restored. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. In fact they probably talk to you all day if you let them.
Well laid out and in good condition building and exhibits.
£11.85 to see the house, gardens and stables. Shame no horses to view. Plenty of history on site. With so many guides, you can ask and they help you. An audio guide for this place would be great.
My only issue with this place, is getting here. As it is off the beaten track it could be better signposted.
A nice cafe on site by selling food and drinks.

Impressive hall with over 30 rooms over two floors open to view. Guides in each room were informative and friendly, though one was far too busy chatting and showing photos on her phone. There were chairs for visitors to use in most rooms and a stair lift for those who struggle with stairs. It was a level walk of about 300 yds from the car park to the house
No gardens other than a herbaceous border, but parkland by Capability Brown provided plenty of walks. The stables area included a cafe with friendly staff, quick service and a good choice of food.

Had a walk round the grounds to the lake, tea & cake in the cafe then into the hall. Very good scones with cream & jam.
There are a lot of rooms to see on the self guided visit & plenty of helpful volunteers to answer questions.
We've seen less & paid more at better known houses.
They have had to do a huge amount of work to conserve & repair since the 60's when it was not in best shape & the house & contents look good.
A very enjoyable interesting day.

Genuinley beautiful grounds and stables. Great for a dog walk and daunder. Cafe top quality with lovely staff...and I mean lovely!! We had a scorching day which always helps.

The staff throughout were absolutely perfect. My autistic daughter ran off. The reception staff stopped her from leaving the house and offered to look after her at the reception as she refused to go around the house with us. She then sat drawing happily while we visited the rooms which where great.
We had food after which was delicious with great portion sizes and reasonably priced. The staff were chatty and when my daughter's pizza arrived a few minutes later than our food, they gave us a free portion of chips.
The only minor suggestions I would make is that the modern acid yellow paint spoils the rooms where it appears and the rooms where it appears would be much better painted a more authentic colour. I was also looking forward to seeing a kitchen, as kitchens in these old houses are often fascinating.

Yes but not in the actual Hall. Cafe has a special room for people with dogs also tables outside. Lots of space to walk them.

Good afternoon, Im thinking of booking the behind the scene cobweb etc tour, could two elederly ladies who walk slowly mange this I see there is a lift to the first floor, please advise best regards JACKIE

Hello, thank you for your enquiry.
The Cobwebs and Cream Teas does involve going up spiral staircases to the attics and climbing very narrow and enclosed stairs to the rooftops, so it may be unsuitable for your two elderly friends. Alternatively, we are open for Christmas from 21st November to 13th December and the Hall will be decorated, this would be a lovely visit for your friends, they could use the stair lift to reach the first floor and you could book afternoon tea in The Stables Tearoom to enjoy after your visit to the Hall. I hope this information is helpful for you to plan a visit.

Thank you for your enquiry.
We will not be holding any dog shows this year, but if you are interested in visiting us with your four-legged friend, we allow all dogs on lead in the grounds. We also have a dedicated Doggy Dining Room where you can sit inside with your pet and enjoy homemade refreshments from the Stables Tearoom.
