Kloster mit eindrucksvoller Bibliothek
2021年7月

Confusion about the tours, but so magnificent!
The internetsite states that separate tours (church, monastery or St. Anna chapel) are possible. It does not mention that at least a small group (5 people or more) are needed for a tour to start. There was a group, but some only wanted to see the church, so there was lot of confusion. It was only when all agreed to make the whole guidetour (as I and my companion had already decided on forehand) that we could start. The church is magnificent, and so is the monastery and the chapel. One pays 6 Euro extra if one wants to make pix (which is more than worthwhile!). In the famous liberary only 2 pix are aloud, the monastery and chapel have no limits to the number of pix. In the 17th century a women's nunnery, founded in the first half of the 13th century, then a men's monastery. At present, Premonstrates are active again, the sightseeing route includes the church of St. Peter and Paul, Gothic chapel of St. Ann, the third largest Moravian Baroque library with 15 000 volumes, musical hall and picture gallery. The Abbey of Nová Říše in Moravia was founded by the military leader Markvard of Hrádek and his wife Vojslava as a monastery of sisters subordinate to the Abbey of Zábrdovice (now one of Brno quarters) in 1211. The church was originally dedicated to Our Lady. The provosts of Nová Říše were taken from among the priests of the founded abbey. In 1770 the abbot had the large hall on the first floor adapted to a library and in 1774 decorated with frescos. There were about 3 700 catalogue works which corresponds to 5000-6000 volumes in 1800. The 1813 a fire completely destroyed the lower library where 3000 volumes burned to ashes. The fire also threatened the main library hall, even the door caught fire. The library was then renewed and installed only in the main hall until 1861, then it was extended to two more rooms. At present here are over 20 000 volumes, 630 volumes got lost after the monastery dissolving in 1950 due to the secularisation. About 3/5th of the books were printed before 1800, there are 88 manuscripts and 55 incunabulums. The library looks like a castle library rather than a monastery library, as a lot of science, medicine, philology, geography, history works are included. About one fourth belongs to theology literature.

Take the whole tour

In the 17th century the from the women's nunnery, founded in the first half of the 13th century, a men's monastery became. At present, Premonstrates are active there again, the sightseeing route includes the church of St. Peter and Paul with valuable engraved movables, Gothic chapel of St. Ann, the third largest Moravian Baroque library with 15 000 volumes, musical hall and picture gallery. The Abbey of Nová Říše in Moravia was founded by the military leader Markvard of Hrádek and his wife Vojslava as a monastery of sisters subordinate to the Abbey of Zábrdovice (nowadays one of Brno quarters) in 1211. The church was dedicated originally to Our Lady. The provosts of Nová Říše were taken from among the priests of the founding abbey. Thanks to corporate endeavor of all those spiritual people the monastery soon became the light of faith spreading to the surroundings and in spite of ill fortune it has continued their mission with the help of God till today. In 1770 the abbot had the big hall on the first floor adapted for a library and in 1774 it was decorated with fresco. There were about 3 700 catalogue works which corresponds to 5000-6000 volumes in 1800. The 1813 fire completely destroyed a lower library where 3000 volumes burned away.
