BLOOD BRIDGE
Roman bridge dating from the late republican era to the beginning of the imperial era, it was one of the entrances to the city. It was used until the 8th century AD, when due to the gradual northward movement of the Tessino torrent bed and the lack of structures to strengthen the river bed, the bridge eventually fell underground.
It was not until 1817, during the work on the nearby Garibaldi Bridge, that its presence was rediscovered, followed by an attempt to upgrade and various project hypotheses, for "the updating and development of the accesses to the Sanguinario Bridge" by the roads and old factories, of the Apostolic Delegation.
Today, the bridge is completely underground from road level, to which it is connected by a staircase accessible from Piazza della Vittoria. There are only two visible arches, both made of travertine cut stones. The modern brick walls were built around 1896, after a sudden collapse of the ground, with the aim of supporting and stamping the two lights, supporting the central pillar, incorporating the upstream one and defining part of the facade of the outer arch,
The foundation of the structure is protected by a stepped embankment. There is no evidence to document the bridge superstructure, although it has been hypothesized that it may have consisted of large polygonal stones.

Dont waste your time here. The sign in front of the stairs says the sight is open on Friday-Sunday and the opening times. Have been waiting for 15 minutes, but nobody showed up. I called the number on the sign and a rude person told me the sight is permanently closed and than hang up on me. At least take the sign with the opening hours down then… just another monument in Spoleto that’s impossible to visit

Per chi ha tempo, il Ponte Sanguinario è un monumento di epoca romana costruito a cavallo del torrente Tessino che attracerva la Città. L'accesso è caratterizzato da una targa descrittiva e una esplicativa con un numero di tel a cui rivolgersi per avere l'apertura di un cancello attraverso cui si scende per la visita negli orari indicati. Prontamente una volontaria raggiunge il posto dotata di chiavi e permette ingresso e visita.È gradita offerta.

The bridge is a historical monument near the San Gregorio gate in Spoleto. It was probably ordered by Augustus during the reconstruction of Via Flaminia or even earlier during its construction around 500 B.C. The imposing bridge was built with large square blocks of travertine with three arches and is almost twenty-five meters long and five meters wide. It is not easy to access, so I won’t recommended it, but the remains of the bridge are important historic witness.

In Piazza della Vittoria si trova l'accesso a questo eccezionale monumento di epoca romana, in buono stato di conservazione ma purtroppo poco valorizzato. Si può osservare la maestria costruttiva degli antichi, in un contesto molto suggestivo. È necessario chiedere le chiavi ai Vigili, il cui ufficio è adiacente al Ponte.

Beeindruckende alte Brücke einer ehemaligen Wasserleitung am Rande der Stadt Spoleto. Besonders bei Nacht ein Highlight, da die Brücke dann sehr schön beleuchtet ist.

Ponte antichissimo che purtroppo ha visto la sua rovina con un intervento di riempimento per impedire il crollo, tuttavia è molto suggestiva la panoramica che si può osservare oppure la storia fatta di tragici eventi che hanno visto protagonista questa struttura

Довольно странная достопримечательность, имеющая, тем не менее, важнейшее историческое значение. Находится Кровавый мост на площади Виттория у ворот до входа в исторический центр города. Обратите внимание на скромную табличку с названием. Мост находится под землей (что указывает на большую величину культурного слоя здесь), к нему надо спуститься по лестнице, далее – хлипкий настил. Жутковато все это выглядит, но видимый участок моста впечатляет.

Понте Сангвинарио, или Кровавый мост, известен с древнеримских времен. Когда-то здесь протекал ручей Тессино, который периодически становился полноценной рекой, это был мост через Тессино. Своим названием мост обязан казням ранних христиан поблизости – им отрубали головы и сбрасывали их в ручей. Эта же участь постигла Святого Понциано – покровителя города Сполето.

The pictures actually depict the Ponte Sanquineto which is on the Giro Condotti and is a beautiful 100 foot high stone bridge over a ravine. A real engineering marvel on a smaller scale of the aquaduct. The real Ponte Sanguinario is an inaccessible structure below street level that does date back to Roman times. The city has cordoned in off. Attached is a pic of what is to be seen of it. Not much to see.
