This tour exceeded all our expectations and will forever be a core memory for our family. It was an extraordinary experience with kind, knowledgeable and charismatic guides and we felt truly submerged and part of the Australian wilderness.

To say we were impressed with this tour is an understatement.
My wife and I did the 3 day Katherine River Hiatus.
We have traveled the world and done many tours and this tour will go down as one of the best we have ever done.
Mick’s knowledge of animal and bird life, the river and the environment is second to none.
Mick guided us through every situation we came across with expertise.
We spent two night’s sleeping on the riverbank and felt very safe knowing Mick had chosen the best spots to set up camp.
All meals were a feast, I won’t list the menus but I will tell you, you will be amazed what Mick can do with a camp oven and a fire.
We were totally blown away by the amount of wildlife and the stunning serenity of the river.
Thanks Mick for a truly unique experience.

Super guide with humor and Great experience. Super cook the Food was very nice and Amazone what je van Cook on a bush stove. The Camping and Kayaking was great fun with spectacular views.

Het is een geweldige trip die je gewoon niet mag missen. Super begeleiding, prachtige natuur en heerlijk eten. Het avondeten was steeds op plekken met een mooi uitzicht. Drie dagen in een kano en niemand tegenkomen. Wat een ervaring. Ook voor de overnachtingen is het goed geregeld.

Fabulous trek with Mick and his team. We were a private group of menopausal women who Mick and his team managed with ease and humour. Helping us prepare before we left, providing info as we went along and cooking all our meals was greatly appreciated. Food was plentiful with some unexpected treats along the way. His team were brilliant and knowledgeable and great company. Would highly recommend Gecko for the trek and would love to do it again and the canoeing. Biggest challenge was the heat but getting us up and going early in the morning meant we had the afternoon to recover and enjoy the most spectacular waterholes every afternoon. Definitely the best hike I have done in Australia and would highly recommend to everyone with a reasonable level of fitness. Thanks Mick and the team.

As experienced wilderness canoeists from Canada we were blown away by our guide Jon’s energy, expertise, and knowledge of the river and its bird life. Jon also prepared two exceptional dinners on our three-day trip, not to mention freshly baked cranberry rolls for our final breakfast. Our only advice would be for future clients to consider taking their own sleeping pads as the provided Thermarests seem to do poorly in sandy conditions. In summary, a “must do” when in the Top End.

THE best way to experience Jatbula is to go with experienced guides such as Mick and Bryn who can show you the hidden treasures. Loved, loved, loved our time on the track. Mick's catering was spot on. He knew how best to tackle the heat of the day and pace ourselves. We were rewarded with special waterholes at the end of each day's walking to cool off. Well organised from start to finish (even if Mick can be a bit slow on replying to emails!! He is often out on the track but he or someone else will get back to you). Could not fault this trip at all. A truly magical hiking experience.

The experience of hiking the Jatbula Trail with the support of Mick and the Gecko team was just perfect. Passionate, knowledgeable and fun guides, well planned and executed logistics, spot on catering. I can't wait for our next adventure with them!

HI I think so, and I think they would enjoy it, but would recommend checking with the owner, mick. i am sure he would be helpful.
Hi, I was just wondering whether any of you interacted with the local Indigenous People that own the Katherine Region while on this tour?
Did you feel as if your guide built cultural awareness and respect regarding the region visited?
Did you think that Gecko was beneficial to both the host and the tourist?

Hi Molly, the area we operate in not under any indigenous land tenure, except on our extended tours in which we border some Wardaman land. In the past I have had extensive contact with local Wardaman elders in a number of situations, ie approval to visit, access permissions and even a study to explore the formation of a joint venture. I do make sure in our welcomes and the duration of the tour that mention of the Wardaman people occurs. When working in Nitmiluk (Jawoyn Country), we are obliged to welcome guests on behalf of Jawoyn.
