Hi, can you take a horse carriage ride from the entrance all the way to the Treasury in Petra? Are there about 800 steps to walk ? Are there narrow pathways sorrounded by deep cliffs ? I'm traveling with my mother and I want to make sure she will be physically capable of making this tour. I would be doing just a day tour of the Treasury, Monastery, and tombs of possible.
From the visitors center entry point, there is a sandy track to the Siq - from here the path, with a very slight downward slope is relatively firm (rock/concrete), you can use the carriages to the Treasury. However, its a pleasant walk and you can stroll and take your time.
The return is of course a very slight incline back to the exit of the siq - from here you can ride a horse along the sandy path but I do not recall the carriages being able to go from the siq to the visitors center.
The carriages looked a little rough and to be honest, the guests appeared to be bouncing around significantly that I think the walk may be easier.
Does that make sense?
Beyond the Treasury its all sandy paths and lots of steps - you can get donkeys and/or camels to see the rest of the tombs etc.
