鞍馬の駅を降りるとお土産屋さんが何件か有り、その中で 気軽にコーヒーを飲めます。おしゃれなカフェとなると ネットで検索してみるのが良いかとは思いますが、田舎の 雰囲気の中で田舎らしさでというのならお見上げ屋さんの中で 飲むコーヒーもおつなもの。お土産屋さんから楽しい情報を 引き出すのも楽しいかもしれません。

There is a "Kurama Onsen" near the foot of Kurama hike. If you want to check in the onsen ryokan first before the hike, there is free shuttle from the train station to the onsen. It's about a 10 - 12 mins walk from onsen to the Kurama hike. The ryokan offer meal + board option, and hotel guest use the onsen facility.

Hey - there where children doing the trail when I did it but it's not possible with a push chair as the majority of the trail is muddy and and the stairs are to narrow.

Hello there. I did not find any guide book for information but I did find that if I googled Mt. Kurama there was some very good advice about the train connections, with maps. I would say that the spring is the best time to go since there are often fall festivals that make it difficult to have a quiet experience while you are walking up or down the mountain path. It was quite cold on the mountain in the spring so bring extra clothing for the top. It can be very cold in winter and very hot in summer. The Reiki Master Memorial is not on Mt. Kurama. I forget where it is, but it is not on Mt. Kurama, in fact there is little information about The Master on Mt. Kurama or the little pamphlet they offer you there. Right in Kurama there is a place to stay but it is quite expensive so I stayed in Kyoto and took the very convenient train to Kurma, from there the way to the mountain path is well marked. It is best if you just arrive with an open mind and allow yourself plenty of time to stop at places that call to you. There is no wrong way to experience this wonderful place. It is best to google Mt. Kurama and from there you will find good advice and maps on how to take the train to Kurama. It is very simple to get to the train station for the line that goes straight there. You can take a taxi or subway to the trian station and there are plenty of maps in the hotels that will also show you the way. Once you are walking on the mountain path there is only one washroom, no restaurants, or places to get food. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy one of the many places to stop and rest and enjoy the quiet atmosphere. It will be very cold and windy at that time of year so be sure to bring warm clothing. Even if it is warm in Kyoto the top is quite cold. If you are looking for the spot where the Reiki Master did his meditations go to the top where the tree roots come over the ground and this entire area is rich with healing energy. Just open your mind and sit where you feel pushed to go. I hope you have a great trip.

Hello! To come to Kurama mountain from Kyoto is easy. First you should take the the Keihan Electric Railway (in Kyoto it’s like a subway line, but a private one) from city center to Demachiyanagi station and then change for Eizan private railway and ride to Kurama station (last station on the line). The trains are frequent and the transfer is fast and well-indicated by signs in English. So, it won’t be a problem. By the way, both Keihan and Eizan lines have websites in English) On Kurama mountain there is a funicular that can take you uphill till some point, but after that the visitors have to climb a rather steep stairs to the shrine. Try the Kyoto site on festivals. Be aware that it is hugely crowded at that time.

We went from Kibuneguchi to Kurama. There were lots of steps going that way, so it is much easier on the knees to go up stairs than to come down them.
