This is such a lovely experience. Taro & his family host you in their home, and he taught us how to make 5 delicious ‘everyday’ dishes, including some knockout wagyu beef. Beyond the actual cooking itself, he shared so many insights into Japanese culture and life - we honestly felt like we learnt more than we had on any tour. Make sure you don’t turn up hungry to eat straight away because you eat everything you’ve cooked altogether at the end, which is lovely.

A wonderful window into normal Japanese family life and cooking - we couldn’t recommend it more highly.

The cooking class was great, Taro gave us more knowledge on the daily life in Japan. we started with a Dashi soup, moved to the Japanese omelet some fried vegetables and finished with grilled meat. we learned about the ingredients the way to cook them and learned about the daily life in Japan. The group was very diverse so we had a lot of fun wile cooking. and learned some Japanese phrases.

I am grateful to Taro and Yoshiko for inviting us into their home. We always like to participate in a cooking class when we travel abroad and my whole family agrees, this was one of the best we've ever done! Taro and Yoshiko are such gracious hosts and very knowledgeable about Japanese food and traditions. Personalizing the experience by sharing their childhood memories was a really nice way for us to get a deeper appreciation for the country, its people, and its cuisine. Two other couples joined us for the class and as a result, we had some very thoughtful and meaningful discussions since we hailed from different countries. Thank you so much for a wonderful afternoon! I hope we will be able to meet again someday.

I cannot recommend this experience enough! Taro and his lovely wife Yoshiko were excellent hosts, inviting you into their warm home. The conversation was incredible - Taro's English is excellent whihc gave us the opportunity to ask all of those questions we had been dying to ask someone!! The food was delicious - Japanese staples such as dashi, which is the basis for so many dishes. I took my 12 year old daughter with me who felt very comfortable with the experience. Would love to do this again (and will next time I am in Kyoto).

Incredible cooking class with a very knowledgeable and friendly host! Really appreciated learning about what people really cook at home as well as interesting insights into Japanese culture. The food was absolutely amazing and we were treated so well throughout. Would thoroughly recommend this to everyone! Thank you so much to Taro and Yoshiko!!

Taro's cooking class was a highlight of our trip. Not only did we learn about Japanese cooking basics, he gave us a cultural and historical lesson too. So much work and attention to detail goes into putting these classes together. Learn to make Dashi the traditional way. Hands on Tamagoyaki. And of course the Wagyu beef. It is truly a unique experience! Thank you Taro and family for welcoming us into your home.

This was a wonderful class to not only learn how to cook some Japanese foods but also to visit with someone in their home and learn about Japanese culture. Taro and his wife made you feel that you were visiting with family. It was a very special experience.

Taro is an excellent ambassador of Japanese cuisine and culture. He introduced Japanese dishes both from a culinary perspective and from how the dishes fit in the culture.

This was a highlight of our trip because Japan can be quite a culture shock for westerners and it was nice to talk and ask questions while cooking new foods. Taro can also give you all the trivia you need to impress your friends when you get home! The meaning of "Wagyu" is a good factoid I pull out any party!

I didn't imagine I'd actually cook any Japanese food when I got home, but they had the ingredients for Dashi at Whole Foods and I was on my way!

One tip is to get money for payment on the way because there isn't an ATM close by. Another tip is that there's a mackerel sushi place nearby, so afterwards I picked some up to eat on the train.

Thanks again to Taro and his lovely family for the great experience!

Haru Cooking Class was easily our peak experience on our trip to Japan! Taro was both an insightful teacher and a gracious host. He shared detailed answers on the history and nuances of Japanese cuisine and how we can apply some of the same practices at home. Taro and Yoshiko also made us feel so at home that we felt comfortable asking all our burning questions that have been unanswered since we started our travels through Japan--questions about Japanese customs, culture, and life.

When traveling, eating out at restaurants and visiting historical sites can sometimes feel like a narrow window into the true character of a country. By comparison, being invited into Taro and Yoshiko's home to spend an afternoon with them gave us a much more intimate and authentic view.

Haru Cooking Class was a reminder of why we travel: to experience a different culture and lifestyle so we can live differently when we return home. I can think of no better way to learn about Japan than through its cuisine, and the experience with Taro and Yoshiko will undoubtedly stay with us when we return home.

This class is the first thing we'll recommend to every friend visiting Japan!
