Good experience. The bus leaves from the place just below the Mall although you first have to assemble at the Mall office of HPTDC. If you have an extra day in your travel itinery of Himachal Pradesh, then this day can be spent leisurly in this manner.

Its a convenient way of viewing the spots around Shimla. The tickets of the bus can be bought from the HPTDC office at the Mall. One may make an online booking earlier so that the seats in the bus are according to choice. As we had bought instant tickets, we were the last in the bus. The journey is good. The bus is also good. In order to get up in the bus , one has to walk quite a distance down to the skating rink Shimla bacause buses are not allowed in the Mall area. While returning, the bus drops you at the Lift from where one can take the lift and walk further towards the Mall or the Marketplace .The spots visited during the journey are mostly view points and apple gardens along with a visit to the Nature Park and Zoo. You can also take a chance at enjoying a pony ride at extra costs.

I booked the Bus online for Shimla sightseeing tour for me and my family. We were asked to assemble at the Tourist Office on Mall Road to board the bus. But then, all the tourists, some old and children were told to descend nearly two kilometres down, along a narrow steep path to take the bus. Moreover, the bus started at 11.20 A.M. instead of 10.30 A.M.This is clear fraud upon the tourists. The old guide could hardly speak clear Hindi. Pretty bad service.

This is one of our best day spent in shimla. This bus takes you almost all places worth visiting around shimla. If you like mountain rides with mind blowing views then this is worth doing.
The staff was very polite and helpful.
We started from Shimla and our first stop was naldhera. We had about a hour and a half to spent there. Our second stop was mashobra. Mashobra has a lot of apple farms. It was 10 min stop . Our third stop was green valley view. It was 15 mins stop which is more than sufficient. Our next stop was hptdc fagu resort. We spent about 20 mins there and then to kufri. After kufri we were back to shimla.

the fact that by booking this tour you will not end up in taxi scum in itself is a scum. yes they dont take you to restaurants/service providers where the driver gets commission, but they fore you to eat at HPTDC restaurants.
let me start from the start. the bus is in very bad shape, dirty. yes it has push back seats, but thats it. the driver is an certified idiot who does not know how to speak with visitors. the conductor/guide is the only gentlemen around.
rule 1 for tour. if there is no snow then dont take any tour to anywhere. shimla has everything.

We booked a sight seeing tour for Naldehra, kufri,Mashobra...
They charged Rs 270 per person...
Bus was very good..HPTDC is professionally managed..office is at Mall..
Very good experience...Charge is very reasonable...
If u book pvt taxi, they will charge around 750 for Naldehra and additional 750 for kufri...the taxi driver will stop at a disyance of around 1-2 km from the spot so that u are forced to hire horse at hefty charge n drivers get their commissions..
But HPTDC bus will drop near to the spot so that we can walk ...
Overall very nice experience

We booked a day tour from Shimla to Kufri and Naheda. We had to walk downhill from the tourist office at Scandal Point to our bus. It was apparent from the outset we had a bus driver who thought he was driving a Ferrari. We were flung around hair pin bends often on the wrong side of the road. We stopped at Apple Blossom for a photo shoot of the border with Pakistan and the snow covered peaks of the Himalayas. Little did we know this was to be the highlight of the day! We continued on to Kufri where we had lunch. There was nothing else to do except wander past some tiny market stalls and avoid the monkeys. We met up with other travellers from UK and NZ who were of a similar opinion. We were all dreading getting back on the bus. We hurtled down the windy road and at one point the bend was so tight the bus had to do a three point turn to get round. When we reached the next stop we headed for a cool drink as there was little else to do. On the way back to Shimla the Indian lady across from us spent the time vomiting out of the window. This did not deter our driver who managed to get us back an hour early. Ourselves and the others from UK and NZ met up for dinner the next night to celebrate the fact we survived the experience. In summary even if he hadn't been the worse driver there really was nothing to do or see.

The tour should be taken by people who love nature. No adventure related sport, skiing is only available in season.

The main town of Shimla has lost its charm, thanks to excessive urbanization. This bus-tour provides an escape from that.
First it is necessary to report to the HPTDC office at Scandal Point on Mall Road. Then you have to walk downhill via Lakkad Bazar, to the Rivoli Bus Stand, which is located near the Ice Skating Rink. The bus is clean, and there's a guide who keeps explaining the significance of the places the bus is headed to.
The first stop is Fagu, which is primarily a view point. The HPTDC Hotel Apple Blossom has toilets and a restaurant. After that, the bus goes to Kufri, which is where the famous Shimla Agreement of 1972 was signed. You can actually have lunch at the same bungalow where it was signed. There is also a potato research station and a nature park nearby. Plus some shops selling local wares are there, including that of Satnam Singh, who sells snow mountain garlic.
After that, the next stop is Naldehra, which has a century-old golf course. HPTDC runs a cafe there, which is a great place for sipping tea/coffee and enjoying the view.
I loved this tour. Highly recommended for everyone!
