We went to Walnut Springs twice this summer. On our first trip there we picked 2 big buckets full of their delicious blueberries. We made muffins & pancakes out of some for breakfast and then froze the rest for future use in baked goods over the winter. On our second trip we picked a small portion of blueberries to eat fresh in addition to some of their black raspberries. Black raspberries were good, but nearing the end of season. They were plump, but did not keep long due to the amount of rain we received just prior to picking.

Overall, we had a good experience both times we went this summer. I would recommend. Staff here are always friendly. Blueberries are excellent. Picking conditions were plentiful. We love how they spread out families/groups into their own picking sections! This was great, especially during COVID. It allowed us space and made it a relaxed atmosphere without other people standing on top of you. We also liked that pets were NOT allowed in the fields. It makes it feel cleaner and safer to bring the kids here. Grounds are well kept so it is easy for kids to navigate the picking fields. Grasses are not high and weeds are kept at bay. Prices are reasonable. Parking is limited. Port-a-potty on location. Water cooler (free cups) also provided for customers. I would recommend IF you are in search of a Pick-your-Own field in the Elkton, MD or Newark, DE area. They do offer limited amounts of pre-picked goods as well, but I would call ahead first for availability.

Last summer we went to Walnut Springs to pick raspberries and blueberries. Back then they also offered strawberries. We really enjoyed our berries and visit with Walnut Springs last year so we planned on returning this year. This year they were only offering PYO blueberries. However, when we were there we saw that they were adding black raspberries to their farm again. So, we are looking forward to next summer's raspberries!

When we arrived, they took families to an assigned section. We were given a bucket and pints to pick the berries. Masks were NOT required in the fields but were required at checkout and recommended if passing other families. Picking conditions were listed as "plentiful" on their Facebook page. We thought the conditions in terms of berry count were good. Berries were easy to locate and pick. Rows were well spaced and maintained. Our family was able to pick about 7.5 pounds of berries in an hour. Once we were done, we headed to the checkout tent. Here they weighed our berries & collected payment (credit accepted). By the checkout tent they also had a portable toilet, hand sanitizer and a water cooler with paper cups.

Overall, we had a wonderful experience at Walnut Springs. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Fields and bushes were well maintained. Berries were delicious and prices were very reasonable. Parking lot is a small field in front of the picking fields. Picking is from 8am-12 noon most days. We would recommend and will be back next year!

Decided to drive out to Walnut Springs Farm to pick black raspberries since they are the ONLY farm in the area that offers the black raspberry variety. Picking was advertised as 8am-noon. Arrived around 9:30am to find that they were closing the fields due to being picked out. Staff was friendly and advised that we could walk up and see IF we could find any. She directed us to an area that she thought we would have the best luck. Thankfully, we were able to pick about 1.5 pounds of black raspberries. That was perfect for what we wanted...just some to nibble on at home! We paid for the raspberries in the little red barn & then decided to head on over to the blueberry field. It is NOT at the same parking lot, so we had to drive over.

At the blueberry field, we were given the option of pint containers or buckets. We again, just wanted enough to eat. So, we opted for 2 pint containers. We were then escorted to an area that would result in good picking. The picking area was assigned and the netting clipped back for easy access. Here we were able to quickly fill out baskets. Once done, we made our way back up to the small trailer to pay. Here at this field they had a water cooler and a port-a-potty IF needed.

Once, we were done picking, we drove back up to the raspberry field and parked. The kids wanted to play on the small playground that they had next to the field. Here there was a Strawberry shaped wooden playhouse with a slide, a swing set with a slide, a sandbox with toys and a picnic table. The wooden strawberry was cute, but has seen better days. Some of the boards were broken, worn OR had loose screws sticking out of them. The slide inside the strawberry was wobbly and really needed to be bolted down to the floor better. However, the kids had fun here.

Overall, we had a good experience with Walnut Springs Farm. Berry picking prices were reasonable at $3.99 per pound. Fruit was absolutely delicious. LOVE that they have black raspberries and NOT just the red variety. Staff was friendly. Fields were EASY to pick from with NO weeds or mud puddles to contend with. This farm is in it's 43rd year of providing the community with fresh delicious fruits. Sadly, they have announced that this will be their last. I would recommend a visit before they close IF you are in the area!
