Many display rooms open to walk through at your leisure to learn how people lived, worked etc. Easy drive from Taos.

This is one of the few true adobe buildings in the area (most are concrete made to look like adobe) and dates from 1804. It was built be Severino Martinez and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
There are a number of interesting artifacts but the main point of interest is the building itself. It shows the relatively primitive conditions of the time and highlights the dangers there (no windows and few outside doors). This is certainly the place to visit to get a feel for New Mexican history. The brochure with a self-guided tour is useful.

A delightful view of a past generation. I was delighted to finally visit this small museum. Well, not small, 20+ rooms to visit on your own with a very helpful brochure, very good descriptions to read. One can read about former generations having just wool to wear (cotton was expensive), having no heat except a fireplace in each room but to see this all at your own speed and comprehension. A great addition to anyone who wants to know more about New Mexican history.

This Hacienda is somewhat interesting. Most rooms have just old staff in very poor condition. The history of the Hacienda relates to trade and the Hispanic heritage of New Mexico. Of interest, rooms do not have windows. It shows the living conditions of that time which were actually primitive. Aspects related to Catholicism are interesting; the bultos may call your attention. The place is poorly kept.
To visit you have to pay a 10 dollar ticker per person. Parking is free and in front of the main entrance. The front desk lady is just focused on her cell phone; I suggest the owners to ask the lady to help with the maintenance of the site. The hacienda is not visited by many; during the times with no visitors, that lady could dust and broom the exhibits.

This is a sprawling old haciend with lots of room from living to work to trade rooms. It is a great history lesson in how life was when this place was inhabited by the family and staff.

Very friendly and helpful staff.
About 15 rooms are open to view. Good information was provided in the rooms and in the brochure we received.
Modest cost. We spent about an hour there.

Visiting this living museum was an afterthought on our last day in the Taos area; I’m glad we didn’t miss it. The simple yet well-described and -labelled exhibits give the interested traveller an insight into life in New Spain in the early years of the 1800s, before the advent of the trade routes with the US. The building itself is the most striking exhibit, as part of the adobe is left unplastered so that the structure can be seen. Highly enjoyable, highly recommended.

Based on other TA reviews we came to La Hacienda to learn more about living in Taos in the past. It's an interesting stop, one that allows you to look into the rooms of the hacienda at your own pace. You don't need a lot of time here, but they do provide you with interesting information about the Martinez family who lived there.

Unique opportunity to go back in time as you wander through this house at your own pace. We loved being on our own rather than guided in a big group, as has been the case in so many other house museums we have been to. Especially loved the kitchen with the beds above the stove, the storage containers for grains, the chapel, and the room set up for children visitors to play in. I wished we had had our grandson with us! We enjoyed a picnic lunch on the grass beside the tranquil babbling creek.
