This was a very small museum but a nice way to spend an hour or so. There were little tunnels for children to crawl through while the adults could read the history.

There is a lot of history and area things to learn at this Museum. It is well organized and the information at the exhibits is well written to keep it interesting. Allow 1-2 hours but leave time for the gift shop. They have more than you'd expect and not just the usual 'museum gift shop' selections.

This is a small quaint museum. It was all about the history of Carteret county. The best part to me was on church hats. It is based on the book called, "Crowns, portraits of Black women in church hats". There were several miniature doll heads all styled with church hats. The museum was just so-so me.

Come in out of the heat and get a history lesson and see many antiques and artifacts. This is a great place! Good for kids as they learn history and don't know they're learning it!

We especially enjoyed talking to a curator about the damage from Hurricane Florence to the museum building and how the area is still in recovery. We enjoy visiting small museums. Take advantage of their cafe for a cup of coffee and or a meal. Two blocks down next to a general store you will find the temporary location of the Core Sound Museum gift shop. That museum is located on Harker Island and remains closed at this time due to storm damage: all their exhibits were saved and are in storage.

A fun, informal museum with a unique cafe next door. The building also contains the library and has an ongoing book sale.

Our entire family enjoyed our visit to the History Museum. We wish it had a little more, maybe on our next visit.

The History Museum costs $3 for an adult ticket. They have an exhibit honoring local veterans back to WWI. The notebooks list the person's name, service, and picture if available. They have an exhibit for the Carteret High School Marching Band over they 30 years with the same band director. In the back is a library for genealogy research.

The Museum is in a cute building on Arendell Street in "downtown" Morehead. It has a Clock Tower so you cant miss it.
Inside you will find vignettes of Carteret County history, beautiful antique artifacts, and wonderful stories and pictures of the history, including the fishing industry. Every month or so, they change out some of the vignettes, which keeps it interesting. There is a docent usually available to answer questions, or tell a story.
There is also a nice gift shop, has learning items for children as well as collectibles, books etc for everyone. Reasonably priced.
Dont forget to go into the Infusion Cafe attached to the museum....oh my!!! wonderful place full of many varieties of coffees and teas. If possible, have lunch....if you like quiche...dont pass! its wonderful! There is a plate that I love..has a large piece of quiche (whatever Katy makes be it Spinach, Asparagus or just plain cheese), a beautiful baby green salad with gargonzala cheese, and a fabulous vinagrette dressing (raspberry...umm), and a bit of fresh fruit. Fantastic lunch! Has other items to choose, one is a tuna or chicken salad sandwich which is very good and everything is made fresh. They also have warm, fresh scones, heavenly, with imported clotted cream and jam.
You can purchase the items for takeout also, including the loose teas; I particularly love the Toasted Almond herb tea, and of course, all the Rooibus' teas.
Be sure to visit the Museum and learn about our charming Carteret County history and enjoy lunch, snack, coffee or tea at the Infusion Cafe...you wont be sorry with either!
