The John Ross Bridge - Market Street Bridge - is not the walking bridge. The pedestrian-only bridge is the Walnut Street Bridge. A lot of folks have the two bridges mixed up.wiki

This is a walk/drive concrete arch bridge that crosses the Susquehanna River. However the eagle statues looming high above are a fantastic touch and give the bridge a unique identity. If walking there's some great views of the river as well as the Wilkes-Barre skyline, and even a few small observation areas to see the river.

beautiful bridge been in the city for many years and is a landmark when coming to Wilkes Barre from the west side

Affectionally known as the Eagle Bridge to anyone local, the Market Street Bridge is a architectural masterpiece built between 1926-1929, speaking to Wilkes-Bqrre's gilded past as the original Dubai. When coal was king, Wilkes-Barre was one of the most lucrative locations on planet earth to be a owner, much like Dubai and UAE is today. And much like those places, when the natural resources run out or become unprofitable, those communities will disappear and fade, yet the architecture sometimes survives. At least Wilkes-Barre isn't in a desert. Yet, sadly most of the city's architectural heritage was destroyed by short sided locals after the 1972 Agnes flood, and since then by the lowest of the low politicians and developers who have used the term "blight" to describe any old structure that hasn't been renovated recently. "Blight" is a code word for: we want to pay our buddies tax payer money to rip it down and give us a kickback. Thankfully, somehow the Eagle Bridge has escaped the wrecking ball and modernization of the city.

I love the Market Street Bridge that sets apart Wilkes-Barre and Kingston, Pa. This span is durable, having survived crests from the Susquehanna River that topped out over 40 feet in 1972 and 2011. The bridge is pedestrian friendly with wide sidewalks, ideal for cyclists and runners. Leaving Wilkes-Barre, commuters have easy access to Kirby Park. Coming from Kingston, motorists enter downtown Wilkes-Barre. The span is included in several parade routes and once was a finishing area for the Great American Race which featured vintage cars journeying from the West Coast.

Low key, Lazy old town charm with a couple of hidden gem shops & restaurants on each side of the bridge. No crowds or traffic to deal with on the Friday afternoon / evening I was there.

Definitely worth a look if in Wilkes Barre!
I would suggest parking nearby and walking up to the bridge to get a better look at the bridge itself and the Susquehanna River below. There's a riverwalk below so I went there to get some good pictures of the bridge from below. This bridge reminds me of some bridges in European cities such as the Pont Neuf in Paris.

Decided to go check out the bridge after reading about it on Trip Advisor. Just a ten minute drive from the casino and pretty easy to find. First we drove over the bridge into Wilkes-Barre and than came back across and parked in a vacant lot off to the right of the bridge. We started across the bridge, but then ended up going down the stairs and walking under the bridge to the other side and came up the stairs on the other side. Beautiful old historical bridge that shows what real craftsmenship was back in the day. They have a couple plaques hanging on the bridge and tells the story of its history and the many floods that it endured. I bet the bridge is really pretty at night with the old iron lamppost lit up. Really glad we went to see it....

Just a bridge connected Wilkes-Barre to Kingston. Nothing fancy to see . Many college walk or fun across here to get to Kirby Park. The area has gown downhill in the past few years...don't be around here after dark.
