My husband and I were in Franklin TN, during November 8-15, 2023. We decided to check out the Lotz House and we were so impressed with the site and tour. Thomas was our tour guide and he was informative, humorous, and very emotionally connected to the memories and lives of those who served and died. He was the best part of the day! We highly recommend this tour with Thomas to all who happen to be in the Franklin area. Thanks Thomas!! Bob and Vicki Cuthbert, Vista, CA.

Confederate flag hanging and being sold in store. You lost. Get over it. Tour overpriced. Don’t go here. Also very ghosty.

Interesting description of civil war battle of Franklin. The home had a few original items, but mostly period items on loan from a donor.

Great experience. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. There are quite a few original pieces in the home. The history of the home is very interesting as well. A must see if you go to Franklin, TN.

We Made a visit to the Lotz House, Franklin Tn and were enthralled with the history of this house. Chuck Bryan was our host and he presented a great historic tour of the house as well as a completes history of the Civil War battle in Franklin. Chuck was very patient and answered all of our questions as well as the questions of the other people on the tour. Chuck Bryn is a great historian and representative of the Lotz House. I highly recommend d touring the Lotz House with Chuck!

A skilled German woodworker lived in this house in the middle of the Civil War battle here. The story of his history and skill, of how he and his family survived the battle and he then restored the house only to later offend the emerging Ku Klux Klan who then threatened to kill him. His family then travelled to California. The house itself is a testament to his skill, how he ran his business and how his family lived there. Great tour and wonderful house.

Very interesting tour! Our guide, Thomas, was exceptional. He knew facts, dates, stories... and was never at a loss for words. I thought I knew a lot about the Civil War, but I learned a lot more. I also gleaned knowledge about many of the items in the house; a reflection of the times. It was beautiful for the era and the story behind the family one to remember. It was worth seeing and the price was a great deal.

Two couples set out to immerse ourselves in the Battle of Franklin, TN, on a cool, sunny October Saturday. JT, who clearly knows the history and loves what he's doing, was our guide at the Lotz House Museum. I was impressed how he personalized the civilian family who lived in this home and found themselves smack dab in the middle of a Civil War battle. How heart breaking to hear the Lotz story of a German immigrant woodworker and the curve ball life threw him (the house itself was his portfolio), the soldiers who bled out sitting on the parlor floor, the effects on the young children, especially the 9 year old daughter who grew up to be a renowned artist. The story is amazing and the battle portion continues 110 steps across the street at the Carter House. If you have Civil War/history interest, put this on your to visit list if you find yourself in the area.

If anyone toured all three houses (Carter, Carnton, and Lotz), how long should I plan for? I’m taking an almost ten year old, so that may affect our pace.

We were 4 adults that took our time with a pub stop for lunch. Took us 6 to 7 hours to do all three. I would actually advise Carter house if you were to do only one. The drama of the battle history that took place there right outside the house with the family inside hiding in the basement was brought to life amazingly well by the volunteer historians and was very enjoyable.

The house was badly damaged in the Battle of Franklin and it took Mr. Lotz 4 years to rebuild it. Some areas like the upstairs floors were patched in spots by Mr. Lotz. The floors, staircase and baseboard are the ones Mr. Lotz installed. The wallpaper is not original but is similar to what would have been used in that time period. Some furniture and artwork belonged to the Lotz family, others are from the time period. A downstairs room is now the gift shop, doesn't look remodeled, though. I don't recall the tour including a kitchen or bathroom which probably have been updated ( or added) since the mid-1800's.

Since I live in Franklin, my husband and I were not on a tour. Even when you live in an area and see historical sites everyday you never visit those places. One rainy day we just decided to take the Lotz House tour and were very surprised how much we enjoyed the whole experience. I do know that once you get to Franklin you can park and ride the Franklin Transit which will travel all over the city and to the Cool springs area where there are several good hotels and the Galleria Mall right on I65 S. Hope you will come to visit and enjoy your stay. Franklin has a lot to offer.
