Classic place to visit. Books and movies make pop cultural references to this place yet it has maintained its charm. Painkillers are “the” drink, but pretty much can get a variety of mixed drinks as per the menu board. Hang at the beach, watch the boats come in, people watch (don’t know which celeb with entourage may show) and just relax in this beautiful environment.

Really great vibe here - one of our top two beaches to visit on a trip to the VI! The food at The Soggy Dollar is fantastic (with prices that are surprisingly low for this destination), the beach is pristine, and the view of the boats is an added bonus. We met some really nice people from all over the world. Looking forward to a return trip!

An institution in the BVI. Not a relaxing visit by any means, it’s crowded and not easy to find a table. That said, I was impressed that the Painkillers were half the price we had elsewhere on the islands. If you’re on Jost Van Dyke it’s worth the experience given the reputation and history.

A soggy dollar visit is a must for anyone in the BVI. The original home of the painkiller, and of its own mighty fine rum - plus while you’re ordering a drink, take a look at the emergency services badges of the world on the ceiling (I spotted Cornwall Police, see if you can find it!). The food is pretty good - but the service is excellent, the setting sublime, and the atmosphere is brilliant and a lot of fun. Seek out Leon the bar man and marvel at the speed (and quality) at which he churns out a bucket of painkillers.

Always a go to spot!! Excellent service and drinks! Order the painkiller and a chicken sandwich for the perfect day hanging on the beach!

This place lives up to its billing! We had great breakfast, lunch, and drinks here during our stay. All of the staff was super friendly.

Best Painkillers in the BVI! We had a blast with friends and couldn’t boast more about the beach we’ll for sure be back soon!

We visited the Soggy Dollar Bar and weren't disappointed with its reputation. We visited on Good Friday so the bar was closed but the gift shop was open and fully stocked for good souvenirs. The beach was beautiful and there were quite a few boats moored just off shore. We had viewed their beach cam on line before arriving and everything was exactly how we anticipated.

So last time my wife and I were at Soggy Dollar was 2011. Pre- Irma and pre-me being 55.
Place had the same vibe - good drinks and social area. What had changed was the amount of very drunk and very loud “Proud American” patrons. Hadn’t seen such a large and obnoxious display of red white and blue and from such drunk people.
That being said it is not Soggy Dollars problem.
Pain Killer is still the best in the world. Everyone claims their own but hands down the best.
View is beyond description. Most beautiful beach there is on the BVI.
Ran into a lot of great people here. Lots of fun.

Wildly over-hyped. Tourist trap.
Packed with cruise ship people. You know....the kind that grab beach chairs then put their stuff on a table for 3 hours without sitting there to "reserve it". They take over cornhole for an hour not even acknowledging others waiting to play.
Drinks were terrible. Terrible.
Essentially an over-priced t-shirt shop or you can think of it as an Applebee's on the beach.
Better food & drinks in the restaurant to the right.

Is White Bay Beach/soggy dollar bar accessible other than by boat ? NCL cruise excursion is sold out. Or is there some sort of water transport other than private charter ?

Soggy Dollar is on Jost Van Dyke. If you are staying on Jost, you can get there by cab or walk depending on where you are staying and how 'in shape' you are. Cab ride is generally $5/person. If you are staying on another island, you can take a public ferry there, depending on the island. There is one that goes to Jost from Tortola. Know the ferry schedule ahead of time, it changes. The bar/restaurant to the right of Soggy Dollar, I think it's Hendo's has great drinks and food. Most of Soggy Dollar's merchandise is overpriced. There are lounge chairs on the beach and bathrooms. Soggy Dollar has a live beach camera and wifi so if you can wave to family/friends live. It was a fun place. Take bug spray, they come out....

It's absolutely open and busy in July. FYI, most places in the BVI don't start closing until early August.
How frequent and reliable are the ferries from Cruz Bay to Jost in November/December? I hear they just started running again reciently.

This is a BVI fee if you're coming from the USVI. It has nothing to do with the Soggy Dollar.
Is there any way to get here without taking the NCL excursion? It’s fully booked for my February cruise and we’re dying to get here.

Not sure what excursion you are referencing but there are multiple ways to get to JVD. There are ferries from St Martin and Tortola. Easiest way is via private charter.

It looked like everything but part of the bar was flattened, hotel, restaurant, all of it. Most recent communication with them shows the bar is being rebuilt. Hopefully, they will be back in business in the near future.
