Great tour of an iconic home

If you’re a fan of John Berendt’s Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil don’t miss this opportunity to view the main level of Jim Williams’ home. The architecture and design are exquisite, as are the furnishings, art and antiques from his collection. Grady provided a fun, animated tour.

Long-Awaited Tour Doesn't Disappoint

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil is one of my all time favorite books (even named one of my childhood cats after beautiful Lady Chablis!). Though I live only a few short hours from Savannah, I've awaited my tour through this home for many many years!
It did not disappoint. Grady knew his stuff and did an amazing job of leading this tour. It was my partners first experience with MW, it was so fun to hear this incredible history. Thank you!!

Exceeded our expectations!

We couldn't have been happier with our tour of the Mercer Williams House. Our tour guide, Max, was incredibly knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and engaging. He provided a great mix of the 1800s and more recent history on the property and furnishings. Even though my son, who is in his mid-20s, was unfamiliar with the Midnight book, he still enjoyed the tour as much as I did. Max really clarified how the story of this house and its owner is much deeper than the notorious crime.

A place to see in Savannah.

Read "The Garden of Good and Evil" before going on the tour. It will make more sense on the tour. Informative and interesting. Metered parking. Worth the price of admission.

Not my favorite house

Not my favorite tour, maybe it would be more interesting if you had read the book or seen the movie. Thankfully the tour was inexpensive and only 30 minutes. You only see the bottom floor consisting of 3 rooms as the upstairs is being lived in by the family.

Worth a stop

If your a fan of the Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil you’ll love the tour. You aren’t allowed to take pictures and that was a disappointment. The history of the house and old Savannah made the tour worthwhile. The architecture was and still is amazing. Enjoy

This was a tour that I truly enjoyed.

5 out of 5 stars for this tour. We are traveling as a family of adults (not an option for reviews) but what a great tour. Grady was our tour guide and he was fabulous. I had taken a tour years ago and enjoyed it. I was glad to bring my daughter and mother back. The home is well preserved and lovely. The garden is gorgeous and the antiques never disappoint. Grady made this tour fun and informative.

Great history of this home at the heart of the book. A majority of the furnishing were original to the home. Excellent tour!

Pretty good Tour

I was disappointed that I only got to see one floor, and a few rooms. Also, no photos. But, having Max for a tour guide made up for it. He was very enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and willing to converse and answer all questions. It ended up being worth the money, just to be able to say I did.

House Made Famous in the book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil

Mercer Williams House Museum is more than just a part of a book or movie set. It is a lovely home first designed by NY architect John S. Norris for General Mercer. Construction began in 1860 but the home was sold and finished in 1868. Sadly, no one from the Mercer family ever lived there. Years later, the home was saved and restored by Jim Williams who is credited with restoring over fifty homes. The home is a masterpiece with 15-foot ceilings, a 60-foot-high entrance, and staircase with a dome and beautiful stained-glass rosette. The Williams family owns the home to this day and a niece lives upstairs, so photographs are prohibited inside the home and garden.
