A dip in an ancient monastery rich in history and culture. A special thanks to Antonio, guide of the monastery, who with professionalism, sympathy and passion, has been able to relive almost a thousand years of history of our Sicily.

Very suggestive place, surrounded by nature of the Nebrodi. The guide was very friendly, helpful and exhaustive, and guided us inside the structure, telling us the history of the monastery.

By chance we happened to visit this abbey.
Well... what about! Lovely place, suggestive and rich in history.
The guide, Antonio, with his story totally kidnapped us.
I recommend it. And above all I thank Antonio for the great advice he gave us to continue visiting beautiful Sicily. Thank you!!

Simply spectacular! Beautiful building that has spanned the centuries and welcomed different cultures, all told with so much passion, precise knowledge, expertise and so much sympathy by Guide Antonio Restivo, who knew how to enchant us for almost 3 hours, making this place even more suggestive!
Really worth a visit, possibly Guided by an equally passionate guide.

The Abbey of San Filippo in Frazzanò is really a jewel for its architecture and for its history that began before the Normans and was then enriched by the presence of Brazilian monks and other history certainly to date from 1090, according to the document left by Roger Norman king after his wife Adelasia had had the grace of the health of his son (grace requested and obtained from his favorite saint Saint Philip of Agira) in the place where the monastery stands.
The Guide of the tourist office of the Municipality of Frazzanò, Antonio, offers precise and cultured descriptions that make you imagine what is not yet fully restored (such as the frescoes from which, however, faces, expressions, clothes and sacred landscapes emerge) and offers detailed stories, tasty and flowery, about the life of the walls and gardens and rooms of the abbey, filled with the rituals and practices of common life but also with the power of the monks who dominated at the time over a third of Sicily, enjoying a wonderful view, scented with oregano and nepitella, and even managing the mountains from which pink marble was quarried (now visible in large copies in San Marco D'Alunzio but also in some structures of this abbey).
Ficarra and Picone rightly elected it as the film set of the next film "l'abbaglio". If you go directly to the place, you will be dazzled by beauty and poetry, still present, and the power of past time.

Magnificent site, of great historical-archaeological, cultural and also landscape interest. It would be appropriate for the municipality to invest - urgently - resources to preserve the monastery and at the same time to promote the territory.
I highly recommend carving out an hour and a half for a guided tour, it's worth it.
To book the visit it is best to contact the municipality of Frazzanò (ME).

We were proceeding towards San Marco when we saw this imposing building on a hill on our left, we took the side street and went up. We see an open door, already a triumph in Sicily, but what made the experience unique was Antonio's welcome. Cultured, funny, inexhaustible in his love for these places and for the memories of the centuries. It seduced and enchanted us for 2 hours, making the real difference between the stone and the narrative that brings it to life. All this for a ticket that we were almost ashamed to pay, €1 for those over 65! I tell the Municipality or the Superintendence that what doesn't get paid loses its value, and here the price is truly humiliating.
