I've read here and heard from a friend that the museum cafe is horrible. Where to have lunch if you want to take a break part way through your museum tour?
We did not eat at the museum cafe, and there are no other dining options within walking distance of the museum that I am aware of. I suggest that you either take the train to Gora (as suggested in the previous post) or that you stop at Miyanoshita (also a close train stop). There is a very nice, small restaurant next to the Miyanoshita station called, Morimeshi, where we had a delicious, reasonably priced dinner. Next to it is a lovely cafe that has a hot spring that runs through it where you can sit at a communal table and soak your feet in the spring that runs underneath (they have some light fare there as well).
Cafe was a total let down . My tip would bring some snacks and enjoy the fabulous views.
WE ate at a local place in town. I don't know about the museum cafe.
Across the street up one of the alley - a great restaurant. Read my review.
well, i didn't drink coffee there, because i saw the menu and there're really rare choices......and seems not tasty.....
if you want to have a lunch..... there are two restaurants inside the museum and you can find them on the ticket map and also on their office website(include opening time and location)...but i don't know the taste.
if you just want to appease your hunger .... i think you can buy some sushi or bread at convenient shop and take them in to the museum and eat them at the rest spot.... there is a 7-11 or lawson very near the ticket office as far as i remember.....
if you just want to eat something before or after the meseum tour, there're some restaurants very near the ticket office.
by the way, the museum is very big and need to walk very long, so it's not a good idea to carry too many things include eating things.....so if i will stay there a whole day, i thingk i will take a full breakfast, past the lunch and get out lately afternoon and then take a great dinner.....
cheers
We didn't try the food in the museum but instead had champagne in the Cafe. Recommendation is to eat at one of the little restaurants along the road to the museum.
We did not eat there, so I can't advise you. You may want to find out if you can bring food in, and have a picnic, since it is beautiful. Not sure if they allow it, but you can email them, on their web site.
There is a choice of 3 places to eat, with various price options. Make sure you show them your Hakone Free pass for discount off admission.
Hi,
i don't remember the coffee shop at the museum so i'll not tell you if it is good or not but about 80 meter from there (one train stop it is the Gora city center with few restaurants that open till early evening.
There is a Burger café just outside the Museum Entrance on the road between the train station and the Museum. 3 minutes walk. You can enter and return in the museum if you want to re-enter.
A great place to have lunch, if you like sushi, is about 100 meters down the road towards the train station, great little mom&pop sushi restaurant
We actually had lunch there and it was not that bad. It was fixed price all you can eat pretty reasonable and good price.
