I stayed for about 3 months, worked on a farm nearby during the summer. Luckily the rooms had AC's and the owner cared for me as if I was family. While I had trouble communicating because my Japanese isn't that good, I feel like I really connected with her through what I know and body language. She helped me rent a motorbike, took me to a local karaoke bar, went hiking, went to different restaurants with her, visited Shukunegi Village together.
She also provides food for a price. Just be aware that it's Japanese home cooking, some people might not like it. For me, the food was part of the experience. It was really good.
My room had a shared toilet and sink with another room. There was enough storage space for my luggage and clothes. Because my room was the farthest from the main house, I didn't have wifi. Sheets and cleaning were done once a week. You can get water with loads of ice for the hot days from the main house.
40 min to Sado-City with the provided free bicycle. 25 min to Ryotsu-Port by bicycle. Parking in front of the house.
Be aware of jellyfish in the water starting august.
Things you have to do if you visit: -Visit Niibo Dam. -Try Niibokatagami Onsen. -Drink the local Sake: Kintsuru -Try Chozaburo sushi just down the road. -Try strawberry Kezuri (Shredded frozen Fruits) from Saito-San's Fruit Cafe down the road. -Drink the local apple juice! -If you have the option, rent a motorbike and take a trip through Sado's nature to its shrines.

It was my first time visiting Sado Island, and information about it was very hard to come by. My stay at the Green Village puts me in a network of Sado insiders (the owner knows the best English speaking guide Takayuki san on the entire island), and I enjoyed strolling the neighborhood that was full of flowers and rustic charm. The rooms are very basic, but it has everything I needed, clean bathroom, strong shower, a view to die-for: rice patties right outside my bedroom window. The house is still in the 50's decor which only added to it's charm, as you'll find most of Sado Island is still in a way, timeless. Homa San was lovely. She spoke some English, and knows lots of body languages, she was a good reader of traveler's needs, often provided things I thought of and didn't get a chance to ask. We fell in love with each other but this is not the reason why I gave her 5 stars. 5 stars for the price I paid, and the service, location I enjoyed, was a fair assessment. I loved using homestay for cultural immersion, and I have been to plenty that actually gaves negative impression, but here is where you can speak with your heart, which is why I came to Sado Island. Make sure you also hook up with Mr. Takayuki, hands down the best guide on Sado Island and reasonably priced. And don't leave without an out of this world sushi extravaganza at a local hidden gem only few blocks away. P.S. Good wifi.

Loved my stay here and my only complaint is I wish I had more time here! :) I really felt they went above and beyond, from picking me up from the port, arranging my ticket for Kodo and then bringing me to the show! Really got a small bit of a feel for the island and truly enjoyed every minute I stayed here. Takayuki was just so amazingly helpful and fun. Truly made my trip here! Highly recommend... but for more than an overnight :)
After having attended the harvest festival in Niibo (week-end of Oct. 10-11, 2015), which was rather cold and windy, it was a great joy to stay at this ever-so-friendly inn nearby. The rooms are comfy, but reasonably-priced, and the hostess is a wonderful, genuinely hospitable and kind-hearted lady. She invited me to dinner, and insisted to drive me to Ryoetsu Port even though I could have taken a bus! And even though she didn't speak a lot of English, and I didn't speak much Japanese, she was so congenial and communicative that both of us always managed to get our point across.
Her guesthouse is a delightful nest that every traveller in the area should consider as their base for this area of beautiful Sado island. Highly recommended.
