From the moment we arriwd here we knew we were in for a world class cultural expearience. The staff that spoke relatively good English took us through the property, sat us down in the dinning room and poured us welcoming tea. Our room was like a palace...a suite with a real bed, en suite bathing - incl a jacuzzi type tub. Beautifully furnished in a traditional japanese fashion. We had a choice of having dinner in our suite with a traditional low table or in the dinning room. We took the dinning room as it had a weatern table. The meal was "haute cuisine"....the best one we had on our two weeks in japan. Highly reccomend this expearience.

函館周辺の宿が取れず、いろいろ検索すると鹿部温泉にちょうど良さそうなお宿発見。温泉街というよりは静かな住宅街にそこはありました。清潔そうなお宿です。お客さんは私たち以外にはお一人だけ。まだシーズン前ですからね。受付には看板犬くんがおりました。夕食は食べきれないほどの海の幸を中心としたお料理。味付けも自分の好み。お風呂は洗い場、浴槽共に十分なスペース。でも湯温が低い、、、、これでは湯冷めしてしまいそうです。女湯はそれでもなかったようですが。翌朝、再度お風呂に入りましたがやはり湯温低めです。温泉宿なのですから湯温管理には充分留意願いたいところです。朝食もボリュームたっぷりですがなんとか食べきりました。食事だけでもいいお宿です。

We made Kurashiki a destination on our tour of Japan. It is an old city, full of ancient warehouses (hence, the name), faced in amazing grey and black tiles. The Ryokan is one of the most amazing experiences we had. We stayed in the Higashi suite, sleeping on futons and being served a fantastic meal consisting of several courses, all prepared by our own cook in a traditional manner. The food was outstanding!! Fish was cooked on a heated stone, as was the Kobi beef. But the presentations of each dish was breath-taking.
The Ryokan Kurashiki is located in a very peaceful area, fronting on the old canal. An evening stroll was relaxing and interesting, as we saw the old city in muted light.
While we were there the Autumn Festival was taking place. Homes were open to the public, featuring beautiful floral arrangements and special treats were available, and the streets were crowded with Suinkyo, groups of men and boys wearing masks and carrying red fans that they would brush against you for blessings and luck.
The food, the service, the surroundings are all breathtaking. It was a truly delightful stop!
