One of the main things that struck me was the kindness and hospitality of the proprietors. Keep in mind that I know only a few words of Japanese and they know only a little bit of English. Yet we were able to have great conversations using google translate. Yes, it's not perfect, and some of the translations it does are funny, but we understood each other.
I gave the room 5 stars not because it is a luxury hotel room, but because it is a good hostel room. It was clean. The mattreses were comfortable. There was a refrigerator, desk and chair.
We were there in the spring when the weather was very nice, so I didn't really pay attention to the presence or absence of air conditioning.
I would encourage all cat lovers to visit Sanagi Island and stay at this hostel. Bring food for the cats (cat food, not leftover human food) If you want to bring a lot and don't know how to feed it, give it to the hostel proprietors. They distribute food for the cats daily, and love the cats very much.
I am commonly troubled by upper respiratory problems due to allergies. I didn't realize until I left Sanagi that my breathing had been clear the entire time I was there. There is also a kind of calmness and peace about the island that you will enjoy if that's what you're looking for. There will be a few other tourists, but no tourist crowds. The other tourists will be from all over the globe. I made friends with a French woman and a German woman who were traveling together, photographing Japan, and had conversations with a photographer from China.
I am not sure if they have their own WiFi, as we brought their own. I think they do.
