After our first long day hiking the Pilgrimage trail, this was an amazing first stop. Though there was no English spoken here, we had made friends on the road with several Ohenro who were also staying here. The rooms were tripple the size of a typical Japanese Ryokan tatami room. Windows looked out over the village. Air con provided which was not necessary as it was still cool in the evening when we arrived. Yukata, bath towel and slippers provided, we bathed up before the most amazing dinner was served. It was one of the best Ryokan dinners we ever had, like 10 mini courses ranging from hamburger for the western palates, to fish, lots of little sashimi dishes, photo attached. Breakfast was no different than dinner - full smorgasboard of Japanese delights, including natto which we tried but kind of like vegamite in Australia - it has to be an acquired taste. The only negative was that smoking was permitted, and the staff smoked in the dining area. You'd need a local Japanese speaker to ring up and book for you. It cost us 7,000 yen per person, including two full meals. Would highly recommend!
