Hi, we are two sisters, who are interested in working at your farm. To begin with we would like to introduce ourselves.
Alva Thunqvist, 17 years old:
I am studying at Järna agricultural college and living in Järna. I have studied for more than one year at this school. In Järna we focus primarily on organic farming, with all that that implies. We are taught farming and care for animals in a way that benefits the environment rather than the opposite which otherwise often is the prevailing view of agriculture.
In addition to that, I have also had internships on organic dairy farms and worked in various gardens, where the focus has been on organic farming and gardening with an intention to sell the crops to conscious consumers.
Our training also includes a so-called lecture period. We have had lessons about composting and how to produce a nutrient-rich soil that can fertilize the land. The content of the lectures is often linked to the different seasons but everything has a direct or indirect connection to ecology.
We also have animal care, where we read about different species and their animal husbandry. The courses include feeding and taking care of the school's animals.
At Järna agricultural college, students in the second grade have a longer trainee period. This implies that students in our class have the possibility to practice either within Sweden's borders but also abroad. The long internship is three to five months.
If you request, the school will later send you a message, in which you can read more about the school and the aim with the trainee period.
I have been working in the service sector as a waitress and dishwasher. A job that gave me experience, primarily about how to deal with people and work under stressful conditions.
And below is a presentation of my older sister
Clara Evasdotter, 21 years old:
I have always been interested in nature and sustainable ways of living. When I lived with my parents in Stockholm, I studied at the Global College with the profile Health and Environment. Subsequently I have moved to northern Sweden where I studied at the residential college for adult education. The education comprised handicraft and traditional ways of living. For example I learned naturopathic preparation, smith work, tanning and pottery. Naturopathic preparation was very interesting and I have continued to learn more about healing herbs and plants. The following year, when I had finished the course, I moved to the village Järna south of Stockholm. Järna is known for ecological and biodynamic farming. The village is a centre for education on sustainable ways of living attracting international students from all over the world.
Last summer I got the opportunity to buy a house in northern Sweden together with some friends of mine. We are living in a commune and we are cultivating our own vegetables. We try to be self-sufficient and hopefully we will have hens this summer. In my childhood we had pets so animals have always been a natural part of my life.
I have worked as a waitress on a restaurant and I have been working as an assistant librarian both in my home-town and in the small village where I have my house. I enjoy assisting customers and am generally perceived as companionable. Since last summer, me and my sister both have a diving licenses and I have a driving license.
I would be happy if you had the possibility to accept me as a trainee or worker, to work for food and accommodation. I can start work from the beginning of April and I have no further plans so it is possible for me to stay at least half a year.
