This is a great place to stay for exploring around Kamikochi. Less than 3 hrs walk on an easy track from Kamikochi bus station. It is well staffed and efficiently run by pleasant people some English spoken. The place is spotlessly clean. Bedding is provided and there’s heating in the rooms which have bunk beds. Dinner and breakfast are available in the price. The food is sufficient and good quality especially considering it’s a reasonable distance from any town. Breakfast at 6am, a bit early for us but reasonable considering you’re going to hike for around 6-8 hrs to get up a mountain or to Karasawa cirque. An o bento is an extra 1,500 yen a bit disappointing as it was 3 pastries, tomato juice and an energy bar. I was expecting onigiri. Perhaps snack box is a better description. Not sure if this was just because we were there the last 2 opening nights of the season. That’s my only gripe, everything else was excellent. Nice bath, onsen towel provided. You had to check in every night separately. So even though we stayed 2 nights we had to move beds and remove all our gear which they held for us. Not sure if this was for extra cleaning purposes? It was ok as it was great weather and we hiked to the cirque. Not sure if you can shelter inside if it was terrible weather…we’d definitely stay again.
