I went on a girl's trip to Austin and we stayed at the Van Zandt. We had a great stay! Very nice lobby and facilities, huge rooms with comfy beds and big bathrooms with both shower and tub. Also very nice pool area with great craft cocktails and nice view. Very helpful staff who brought up a kettle and scissors that I needed with short notice. Hotel was right off a fun street with lots of bars and a dance club. We loved our stay and they were very tolerant of our large and crazy group of ladies!
On August 11, I booked a room to check-in the next day so I can attend Austin Pride 2021. The same evening, the city cancels the parade due to Level 5 covid risk in Austin. The hotel would not approve a refund citing the room was non-refundable. Okay, so my choice is lose the money or come to Austin and risk getting Covid? Thanks Kimpton Hotel Van Zandt - way to sure your support for The LGBT community and for the health and safety of your guests. PS. I had no problem canceling the remainder of my weekend stay with Marriott (originally planned for friends to come down and share a room). Marriott was understanding!
Stayed here just for one night. Room was great and the bed was very comfortable...loved it! However, a minute before 11 in the morning at the check out time, a lady started knocking asking when we are leaving. I thought she is kidding but she wasn't! That takes away one star. And the hostesses at Geraldine's were plain rude, another star gone for that. Otherwise, nice place.
The hotel is beautiful. Our room was nice, with a beautiful view of Lady Bird Lake and a giant soaking tub. It was very clean and the staff was nice. The pool area is small but fine. The problem? Absolutely no food or drink was available—no drinks or snacks at the pool; both restaurants were closed; and room service was only available from 10 am to 2 pm!! I realize there are all kinds of staffing shortages these days— but I’m sorry, I would not have stayed here if I had known I couldn’t even get a glass of wine. (NB we stayed at the Fairmont a few weeks ago and there was no shortage of food or alcohol.). There wasn’t even an overpriced minibar! Yeah, we could’ve walked around the corner and gotten something on Rainey Street, but we were tired after a long day and just not up for that. Definitely not a four star hotel experience. Also, for future reference—construction is getting underway on the empty land between the Van Zandt and the lake. Pretty soon the beautiful lake view may be replaced by a view of the high rise next door. Sad.…
This hotel was one of the worst I’ve been to in a long time. The entire hotel: the lobby, the rooms, & the pool were all terribly dirty. The pool was so crowded you could almost put your arms out and run into someone. I was really surprised because I had been told the pool area was recently redone. The cabanas are awful… the layout & they are basically just hot tents. Do not pay the $250 charge to get one. The main issues are the cleanliness in the hotel & rooms. When we arrived, we were in a basic room, our original reservation for a suite didn’t start for another day. We had tried to add on another day at the beginning of our reservation, but they did not have availability. So our first night was in a basic room. It was absolutely filthy and smelled. We were so tired and exhausted, we just dealt with it. We were told there were no other rooms. The next day we moved to our suite. It has not been cleaned. They said it had been cleaned, but there is no way. You could see rings on the tables from the prior nights guests. Their leftovers and drinks were still in the fridge. You could see where they had their drinks and even were their phone sat in spilled beverages. For one of their top level suites, the place was disgusting. Sure, it had a record player and some fun books. But who cares if it’s disgusting? Both rugs had huge holes in them that were actually hazardous. The couch, the furniture, everything was dirty. Then we made our way back to the bedroom. Again, another huge hole in the rug. They had dirty throw pillows on the bed, I thought most hotels had permanently stopped using those during Covid? Then we went into the bathroom… Literally pieces of poopy toilet paper on the back of the toilet seat. Nothing had been cleaned. We went to go talk to management downstairs. There were three men running the check-in desks, the one guy was trying to help us, but another one took over. He was extremely snotty and unapologetic. I guess they are so busy that they don’t really care if the hotel is dirty? They also use shared shampoo, conditioner, soap. They are community bottles that were used by the last guests. I understand the reasoning behind this, but it is unsanitary and a health hazard. Especially during Covid and especially with this hotels cleaning practices. The view from the suite is also hideous… an ugly dirt lot. The valet is extremely slow, we waited 25 minutes one day for the car. They also leave it unattended, so don’t have anything of value in there when you’re having them bring it up. We canceled the rest of our stay and moved over to the four seasons. The rates may be higher over there, but it is so much better. The price difference is well worth it. Please see pics.…
