This Typical Japanese stile Ryokan can welcome 35 people but I was the only one guest maybe due to corona virus restriction. Just few steps from Kusatsu Bus Terminal and from there you can walk around to every places maybe needing 10-15 minutes (Yubatake, Sainokawara, Otakinoyu, Kusatsu Tropical Lands etc). They have their own Hosprings bath inside which was very hot even for me who loves hot water. They run also souvenir shops where you can enjoy discount if you stay at the ryokan.Accomodation fee is very reasonable. You have to eat out and I recommend to buy foods and drinks at the nearest convenience store rather than going to restaurants as the price is high and the quality is not so.Current owner's father collected many Raccoon figurines(females he emphasized) so you can see big ones at the entrance of the souvernir shops and the ryokan.
We stayed as a family of four for one night before walking the trail Tsumago.
The Ryokan is simple but very clean and welcoming. We had two rooms across the corridor from each other, one with en-suite sink and toilet which was much appreciated.
The onsen bath had two showers for men and three for women. The baths themselves are really for one - two is cosy. There are plenty of sinks for washing and separate men’s and women’s toilets.
Evening meal is served at 6.00 for everyone - there is a huge range of elements from sushi, chicken curry, tempura vegetables, miso soup, pickles, plenty of rice and other stuff which I still have no idea what it is washed down with green tea an beer. I don’t eat fish or seafood but thoroughly enjoyed it. I think there was some singing and dancing organised for later in the evening but we passed on this.
Breakfast is served at 7.30 and again is a full Japanese experience - not sure I would fancy it every day but nice to try.
All in all, a great experience and very reasonably priced - cYen 35,000 for all four if us. A great base to set you up for trail walking.
