A really great little camp that’s very underrated. Very neat, well looked after clean bungalows. Neat well kept garden and lawns. Outside and inside kitchen for communal use by campers and rondawel guests. Friendly staff. Yes one can see the sugarcane and buildings and lights on the other side of the river but the game viewing and care of the camp makes up for that.
We were there in august so I m a bit late. I could have rated 5 stars... because if I go back in the area one day I may again choose this camp. But it is a basic accomodation with one kitchen for all the guests, so... We loved the SanParks camps because they are "cool". You have a breakfast, you step in your car and... you are in the middle of wild animals. Around this camp we saw rhinos, wild dogs, hyenas, and other tourists saw leopards. Moreover there are less people near Malelane than near Skukuza! 2 advices : do not let bananas on the breakfast table, the monkeys will jump on it and steal everything. And at your arrival go to Malelane Gate first to get your keys.
There are 2 equipped kitchens, one inside and one outside and tables and chairs, plus enough electrical outlets. And few people stay here, so generally quieter, no queue for the showers, ... Beware of the monkeys in daytime, they will steal any food !
We booked into Melelane for our last nidght in Kruger. At 18.10 we arrived to the Malelane gate to be greeted with a sign saying guests must check in at the Melelane gate. Drive to the gate to be greeted by a slightly grumpy man who says they have been been expecting us. We explained to him er we t directly. To. The camp as no where had we been advised to check in at the gate. The site is quite nice situated on crocodile river but the first site we tried the power kept tripping so we had to uproot and move to the only available site with power. I have to be honest, unless you have to stay here for time constraints, I would look for a camp outside Kruger as you get much better value for money.
Had a week camping trip with my Daughter and we stayed at Malelane Satellite camp right next to the fence and had a wonderful time. We had Elephants ,bushbaby’s ,Hyena’s and genits with the usual audience like impala and warthogs visiting our spot at night. The camp is very Intimate without the bustle of the main camps and I will definitely become a regular here it was wonderful. The Ablutions where spotless and very clean and the camp has a big gas operated deep freeze for campers to share if required.
