Thinking of staying here in February, just the two of us, is there a beach, shelling, snorkeling? Never been to the keys, so but this area seems like a tropical setting not too far a drive from Miami airport. Are there restaurants or things to do within walking distance? Thinking of ocean front cottage or cozy cottage, do like privacy. Thanks for any help

While I have not stayed here I have stayed at many places in the keys. There are not a lot of real beaches in the keys...each key is basically a rock in the water. If you want shelling the west coast of Florida, particularly Sanibel, would be the place. Most beaches are created by clearing rocks and dumping sand, then smoothing it out on a grade that gets deeper the farther it goes out. Walks on any beach in the keys would be a pleasure and sunsets are outrageous, particularly when you are equipped with a margarita!

My family and I are considering Pines and Palms for a trip in May. I was wondering about swimming in the ocean. My kids (ages 9 and 5) love swimming in the ocean and it's unclear from the reviews if that's possible. The resort's website says there are swimming ladders on the piers but is the water fit for swimming?

The water is beautiful for swimming. Snorkeling and diving are a major activity here. The water is clear and clean.
