Great place to stop if you just need toilets showers and washing up facilities. We stopped for a couple of nights on spec - the owners were friendly and super helpful. We hired a fire pit at a very reasonable price which we called ahead for and it was waiting on our pitch for us on our return. All the pitches are flat which is a great bonus and plenty of space. Thank you guys!
Back to Basics Camp Site was lovely. Owners are brilliant, cant do enough for you! Great place to stay, would definitely recommend, and if we stay in Hayle again that would be the place to go, gorgeous place.
We stayed here with our young children and it was a lovely, quiet campsite. The showers were really hot and the washing up room was great too - really hot water, clean and lot a of space to wash dishes. Great health and safety advice for the current pandemic. Owners were friendly and told us about their plans to upgrade the toilet and shower blocks in time to new units. Only downside was the road noise from the A30 which is noticeable but did not disturb us particularly... just something to consider if you want silence upon waking! It didn't bother us.
The Old Stables camping is back to basics camping, we have just returned from our second visit and loved every minute. This a very simple site with pitches around a large field which is perfect for the kids to run free and get away from their electronics, whilst you enjoy the peace of the Cornish countryside and coast. Mike and Jayne opened their campsite for the first time last year and they make sure that everyone who visits enjoys their stay and has everything they need. This campsite is a great examples of basic camping without electric, there are male and female toilet blocks which have 2 showers, there is an indoor washing up and seating area which was introduced this year, along with water station and wetsuit rinse facility you have all you need. Mike and Jayne also offer fire pit rental, homemade cakes to buy and other touches to help your stay. These guys go the extra mile to ensure you have a great stay, this year they have gone out of their way to ensure everyone feels safe an that they are doing the upmost to provide all social distance requirement supported by constant cleaning and sanitising facilities so the campsite can operate and remove any concerns their campers may have. The old stables is located ideally near to Gwithian beach which is a stunning stretch of sand that looks across the water from St Ives, the beach has great surf, board rental and some places to get food and drinks. The campsite is a 5 minute drive from the town of Hayle that offers supermarkets, fish and chip shops, and a good choice of pubs. It is also ideal to visit surrounding areas with good links to Penzance, Newquay and Lands End, and of course St Ives to have a mooch around the shops and eat out or sit on the harbour with fish and chips or a pasty! If you like basics, this campsite ticks all the boxes!…
