I have stayed here several times over the years, I have always had great food and great service. They always had great breakfast's. They even let us cook the crab in their kitchen that we had caught on the other side island!!! Love it!!!
My wife found this B&B on a website about San Juan Island . We booked a three night stay at the Blair House (iIf we had known about trip advisor at the time, we would never have stayed there). In my opinion, a B&B should be an extremely hospitable place. The hosts are friendly, the rooms clean, and the food respectable. Staying at the Blair house for one night made me question my views on Bed and Breakfasts. I phoned Patrick (I assume it was Patrick who I met, he never did tell me his name) as we were getting off the boat to get directions. He said the place was open, and that he was "getting out of there," but the key was in the door. He was there when we arrived, but immediately said, "I'm here still...but I gotta go..now." After an awkward pause, I asked him, "What do we need to do then?" He said to follow him. I went into the house, where his son was playing video games in the living room. He told his son to "clean this stuff up," and I followed him into our room. It was small and unimpressive, and smelled strongly of smoke and febreze. He showed me the room, opened the patio doors and left. I didn't know when breakfast would be, or much else about the place. My wife was immediately uncomfortable, but we decided to give the place the benefit of the doubt. We went out to dinner, came back and our "host" was in the living room. I was cordial and said hello, but he held his hand up at me, pointed to his ear and said "I'm on the phone," and walked out of the room. We didn't see him again until the following morning ( breakfast: cold croissants and containers of yogurt) when we told him we would be checking out that day. My wife was having a strong allergic (and aesthetic! ) reaction to the place. We said we'd be willing to pay a cancellation fee for the 2 additional days. After some silent pondering, Patrick walked out of the room, came back and offered to credit our card back for 1 and 1/2 days. In other words, he had charged us in full for 3 days before we even arrived. He then said "You know, there are a lot of other people who would have been glad to take this room at $115." He did not say a word to me when I handed him back our room key. He walked out of the house and drove off. This was by far the most inhospitable B&B I have ever been to. Incidentally, we spent the next night at the Trumpeter Inn, which was opposite the Blair House in every way, thank goodness! …
One step up from tent camping (except my sleeping bag is cleaner than their rooms are). The shared bathrooms, green swimming pool, musty odors and dirty laundry in the closet didn't help either. AWFUL!
