It is difficult to find a comfortable accommodation while travelling in Tibet Autonomous Region. We were lucky to find Mei Lin Hotel still have rooms available when we arrived at 8pm. It meets the standard of an international hotel in terms of quality and amenities. However, do bring cash along to make payment as the hotel do not accept international credit cards like Visa and Mastercard. The rooms are large and comfortable for two. Wifi is also available in the room. The breakfast spread is limited, but enough to get you started for the day. There are also a number of restaurants, some opening till late at night, on the same road as the hotel, so no issue with finding food outside the hotel too. Overall, a nice accomodation in a remote part of TAR.
Hotel requires foreign guests to be registered at local police before check-in, which is difficult when you arrive at 8 pm and police station is closed after 6pm. Reception staff has been stupidly strict on this, so we went to the next hotel (over the road) - where they did not have a problem with registration on next day. After spending about 10 minutes in newly opened lobby, we got headache because of the chemical smell, but this might not be permanent, though we did not see any construction going on.
